I wondered if that was what it was. I immediately went downstairs to see if it wasn't an explosion in the basement or something but all seemed fine but the cat was freaking out.

Checked online but it hadn't been recorded on any of the many earthquake sites. 30 minutes later my phone had a panic attack: Emergency Alert! Extreme!

Couldn't have been that bad, the elevated trains are still running.

My first earthquake! Who else has experienced an earthquake?

About 20 years ago I was woken in the middle of the night by something rattling. I rolled over and went back to sleep. Apparently it was an earthquake and some miles away someone's chimney pot fell down as a result. We don't get significant earthquakes in England.

Today's New York earthquake has made BBC News.

I experience one in 91 or 92 just south of L. A. I was visiting my sister and her family and the earthquake occurred in the middle of the night. I was sleeping on the couch and woke up to see my brother in law standing naked in the doorway telling me not to worry the quake was over……barely noticed the earthquake and I wasn’t worried.

i live in Virginia, Where is live we have experince at east three that i can recall. The first one i was outside working in the yard .i hear this rumble in the distance( like a washing machine out of balance). But it is getting/ coming closer to me. Like a wave. Then i become loud and everything rumble for a bit. My Mom ran out of the house saying whats going on and a few neighbors ran out of their homes also. The others i was in bed and heard the windows rattle a bit.

I heard the glass sliding doors on a bookcase rattling and assumed it was the dog laying in front of them scratching herself, but when I looked I saw she wasn't there. I don't remember the year or Richter number or if it was centered in Ohio or where.

We've had them here in Ontario and I could feel the vertical movement of our office building. Another one was noticeable at the farm because of the creaking of wood framing in the house.

The most significant one that I felt was in Rome years ago when I was living there. The next day pipe scaffolding started going up around a lot of the monuments for inspection and stabilisation.

I suppose the Eclipse and the beginning of the end times because Trans Visibility Day and Easter Sunday coincided this year will be blamed?

The scaffolding may still be there. I've heard Romans joke that the city has no place to store scaffolding, and that therefore, when it's served its purpose on one building, it's reassembled at another, then stays for decades waiting for work to begin.

I remember that. My neighbour's chimney came down and totalled her car

I have a few times as a kid said something was going on and people said I was nuts. They turned out to be very small quakes I could feel for some reason. Never been in a big one.

My first earthquake!
How old are you? Where has your awareness been all that time? There are quakes all over the world everyday, and a 4-5 is not that big deal either.

Yes but his was the first significant one that I actually heard and felt.

Waaaaaay out in the water see it swimming.

I've "heard and felt" several. The most memorable was when I was a kid; it hit around Christmas and the first thing I noticed was that the little angel figurines in the angel choir by the fireplace were 'dancing'. I was on the couch and didn't feel anything till I put my feet on the floor to go tell my mom the angels were dancing -- and then I thought the world was ending.

Just for the heck of it... I now recalled I forgot to post back then,,,
