"28 million Indian children produce 65 million kilograms of waste each day"

The Titanic weighed 53 million kilograms!

Man, I've shit all over India. Streets, paddies, beaches, behind bus stops, dark lanes, in every wretched place imaginable.

Where is this "loo" that they're telling us to go to? The clever videographers damn well know that there aren't public toilets everywhere.

The last time I was there I almost shat my pants at the Victoria Monument, and when I finally found the moronic excuse for a toilet there I felt like soiling the gardens instead. :jab:

I like the song. Money would be better spent building a few real toilets, though.

^

I think the United Nations paid for the singing cartoon as a follow up to their press release from last year which said Indians valued having a mobile phone more than having a toilet.

There are seven billion people in the world

six billion people have mobile phones

4.5 billion people have access to toilets or latrines

1.1 billion people defecate in the open.

"28 million Indian children produce 65 million kilograms of waste each day"

65m kg/28m children = 2.32kg = 5 lb 1.5oz per child.

I find this hard to believe. If you took a mean age of 8 the average weight of the child is 51.5 - 63.6 pounds.

You're saying they lose 1/10th of their body weight in shit?

I find this a incredible statistic.

^ According to UNICEF, India has the highest number of people in the world - an estimated 620 million - who defecate in public.

Studies show open defecation is almost universal amongst the poorest 20 per cent of India's population and more than 28 million children lack access to toilets in their schools.

It creates a major public health hazard by leaving an estimated 65 million kilograms of waste each day.

Interesting thread by someone who is so averse to shit that he never has.

Or at least that appears to be the case.

Just one of the things we take for granted; just like clean water coming out of a tap; or lights coming on at the click of a switch.

Perhaps Grimshaw isn't the only one full of shit.

I am flabbergasted that this happens most often in nearly the most populous country on the planet which has copious amounts of poverty. It doesn't make any sense.

It must be their genes.

^ You are making that assumption. I am going on the stats that say mobile phones are more valued than a private excretory.

How many public restrooms have you built with personal funds you otherwise would have spent on a fancier cellphone?

The way your world works.

It is a matter of priorities and whether or not your children will be dieing.

My last mobile phone operated for 6 years.

I've seen sewered-toilets which have operated for half a century.
