Well i am getting a new computer

which vista version should i get the 64 or 32 bit version

all the components appear to be compatible with the 64 version so i am strongly leaning towards that but what are your opinions?

I'd go 32 bit because there are still software incompatibilities with the 64 bit version. iTunes won't even work on it, and it's a fairly simple program.

i thought that the latest version fixed the problem

also has Australian ratings for TV and movies which means we will probably be getting them soon as well ..|

The latest version of iTunes has fixed some (but not all) issues with Vista 32 bit, but iTunes won't work at all on 64 bit, of Vista or XP. Many other applications have the same issue.

I'd get a 64 bit Mac, I could still run windows if I went insane ;)

dont have the money for a mac why is it they can write 64 bit code for a mac but when it comes to writing a program for an os they have had for months they cant do it

I am definatly considering getting the new samsung player and ditching the ipod

apple really need to get their act together :(

I just got a gig of memory so if I get vista I will be able to handel it on my HP AMD sempron. Now I hear that most of the upgrades will make the xp act like vista. I don't know if that is true but I'll wait till the need is real. Wes

If iTunes not working is all that's stopping you from going 64bit then...you're mad.

Are you getting a 64bit processor system?

IMO 64bit kicks ass. I have some friends from my computer science days in college who all went with 64bit systems and XP64 and I swear it's faster by x3 or x4 times. I've never seen XP boot up so quickly. Video rendering is unreal.

It seems that MS has gone all out with Vista64 so I'd def go with it. Do your homework and make sure you can get drivers for everything first.

i couldent afford the best now but i am getting AMD 3800+ X2 which is 64 bit 1 gb ram and 256mb graphics card

but its an AM2 board with PCI-e so i can upgrade it all later ..|

Go with that, I have the same thing. My computer has Windows Vista Premium 32 bit and its a good system. You just need to upgrade to another GB of RAM and if the graphics card is on board I would get a new video card if you're a gamer.

This is the computer I bought.

Is that last thing for real? That would be absolutely rediculous. I would like to know if he's shitting.

This is like asking if you should get 1gb of RAM or 2gb of RAM. There is no question which is better. You don't have to use itunes with an ipod...and for the love of god, why would you want to?

I would definitely go with x86(32bit) over x64(64bit). Simply because there are not many drivers written for x64, but when there are drivers for x64 things will run smoothly. Because all x64 drivers for Vista must be signed by Microsoft before they will install. Besides that if you don't have at least 4GB of RAM, you won't get much benefit out of the x64 version.

I hope this helps with any decision you make.

Well I just think that guy on the video is just another user from another operating system just trying to diss Vista.

If you have Windows XP Professional, and you have bought Vista Home Premium Upgrade with the intent to "upgrade" your XP, you've just wasted $160. Windows Vista Home Basic and Premium will refuse to install over Windows XP Pro. Win XP Pro may only be upgraded to Vista Enterprise or Ultimate
Thats not true. You cant upgrade the OS, however you can do a clean install by buying the upgrade cd.

Considering how much they F***ing charge for vista, there is no reason why they cannot include the 64 bit version, and also why you have to pay to obtain it on top of already paying so much for it.
Actually it makes sense. The people who are going to care whether they are going to install a 64 bit OS are probably going to buy Vista Ultimate, which does in fact include BOTH versions. Most people who buy the home edition probably couldnt tell you what the processor does let alone whether its 32 bit or 64 bit and what that really means and how it will impact them. So giving them only once cd, is fine for most people. Otherwise you should just read the box.

As for the origional question. I would say 64 bit should work in most cases for you. However if you have alot of legacy hardware go with 32 bit.

Well 64 if your hardware supports 64 bit computing. It's "future proof".

Of course it can be done, Matt, but you can't do it legally.

Why is it that people who love Microsoft so often seem to think it's okay to cheat them?

i am getting a new pc with the oem version which is the same price as the upgrade

oh and to answer your Q they seem to think that there actually paying money for it as opposed to XP where they dident

Yeah i dont think they would let you do that but nice idea anyway

I think i will stick with the 32 bit version for now and get 64 when i get my next new pc or when there is a compelling reason to do so

i would like the extra security that the 64 bit version offers but i think i will wait plus vienna should be 64 bit only so when it comes out i could just upgrade then oh well see what happens

you watch now that i have said this i will end up with the 64 version;)

oh yeah i will be getting my pc at the end of next week start of the next ill just tell the guy to give me what he think is best ..
