8 Things that died out in the 2000s

The 20th century died out in the 2000s

Ok, back to topic.

Here, home PCs and payphones are still alive, despite their diminished fame. Heck, I still have my PC just behind this laptop I use right now. And it was just two days ago I decided to use an abandoned payphone on my campus instead of my cellphone. Surprisingly, the phone worked. Reminded me of my childhood when I used it everyday to call home from school.

I still keep my floppy disks too. It can be something rare in the future

But what's wrong with picture no. 7? I still see them all the time.

I thought he meant huge moniters died out, not PC's. I think most people have some form of flat screen moniter now.

Gasoline that only cost a dollar a gallon.

The trend for teenaged white boys to act like a completely racist caricature of another race. . .a.k.a Wiggers.

The HD-DVD format. It was supposed to have won out over Blu-Ray, since it was much cheaper and economical to manufacture. . .but even that wasn't enough to save it.

YES! I miss Tech TV.

And HD-DVD was so promising. Less DRM, cheaper, and NO region coding.

Thanks a bunch, SONY. ](*,)

I have a large box of floppy discs next to my desk. My older brother kept giving them to me as a gag gift because he thought I was silly for not buying a thumb drive. (This was back when they were still ridiculously expensive.)

I get about three phone books a year, and I do use them from time to time, mostly to get numbers for taxi companies.

I finally took my giant monitor to be recycled about two years ago.

My phone has a built-in answering machine. I don't trust voice mail. I've lost a lot of messages on my cell phone because the voice mail is so unreliable.

I had dial-up (AOHell, no less) until 2004.

Oh, and I still have a lot of movies on VHS because the studios are kind of slow when it comes to putting classic movies out on DVD.

I am definitely not up with the latest technologies. I still use a VHS to tape my shows, an answering machine at the house, cassette tapes in the car for some music, a phone book and the yellow pages to look up local phone numbers, and a modem on my computer. It has been within the last three or so years when I gave up my CRT monitor for a LCD one. Technology may change quickly, but others have their own pace.

It's actually not Sony's fault.

What killed the HD-DVD format was the exact same thing that killed the Betamax in the Betamax vs. VHS battle. Just like the HD-DVD vs. Blu-ray format war, the Betamax was the superior format, but Sony refused to allow third-party Betamax players. JVC, on the other hand, allowed any developer to create VHS players. Toshiba didn't learn from the past, and thus, HD-DVD failed as a platform.

I may be entirely wrong, but I don't believe I've ever seen a non-Toshiba HD-DVD player. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Ehhhhh...... NO. Without going into what I do for a living, it WAS Sony's fault. Or I should say "doing". And yes, there were other HD-DVD players and combo players, but the market was SO new, we didn't see many before it was over.

Anyway.... back to the program...

Gay movies, too. And I have some really obscure stuff like Mr Stitch starring Wil Wheaton that I actually had to tape off of Space Channel.

What is the item in picture #4?
A portable CD player.

Oh! You know what you're seeing much less often these days?

Public water fountains. Anybody else notice this?

It seems like when you do find one, half of the time it doesn't work. They're disconnecting them right and left.
Maybe the Tea Partiers are pissed off that they have to share their water fountains with the coloreds.

This must be a joke, right? It's some digitally altered image, isn't it?
Looks like it. Her face is too off-center, and the chin is a little funky-looking around the edges.
