I had a non eventful weekend - very somber day

watching the 911 special on CBS right now - it is incredible

We are a great country and it's sad sometimes that horrible events are required for us to see this

There was great leadership in the city and in the country 10 years ago

And the people of NY and all across the country bonded

That is who we really are - not this petty bullshit about republican or democratic ideology

firefighters, police, EMS plus all those who not only on 911 but every day protect us

they deserve our respect and appreciation

they do what they do so we can have live our lives

I love NYC

feel free to share what you did today and if there was anything in particular that came to you and made you think

For me it was sad - and frankly the city was quiet - respectful - i did not have interest in watching football, my usual sunday past time and frankly it sorta pissed me off that the networks were doing their usual build up for the games - seemed unseemly

BUT

I guess that's what it's all about - normal life - not sure

Did a lot of reflection mostly.

I an remember every moment down to the most minute detail when I first got word that a plane had hit the World Trade Center.

Today I was reminded of the pain and suffering that we all felt that beautiful Tuesday morning 10 years ago.

It was the first time that I heard the names being read.

I wept again.

I remembered how we all watched in horror what was taking place that day.

How, as Americans we're all so much better than our politics.

I talked with old friends over the phone, and we commiserated together the events that took place 10 years ago, and the changes in our lives since then.

Today was a good day, and a nice reminder of our better angels.

I've been rewatching videos of 9/11 of footage I have not seen for years, some, not since the day it happened. Every anniversary I sort of just skimmed through the news articles that showed a picture every now and then. However, today I spent the time to relive the event, and it was very difficult. Sometimes it was hard to keep it together. When you hear the people screaming in agony as the towers start falling, it's just unbearable.

Hearing the readings of the names today was a very emotional experience. Hearing those names while watching people walk through the memorial was just heartbreaking. I watched some of the documentaries on History Channel and CNN. Just really took the time to think about the events of that day 10 years ago when I was sitting at school completely clueless as to what was going on in the real world...

I observed 9/11 by doing things that Osama bin Laden would hate.

watched gay porn, ate bacon and eggs for breakfast, grabbed a pastrami on rye from a jewish deli for lunch, and listened to some Fiddler on the Roof.

My one thought watching so many replays of the day was what has happened to the security people who let the hijackers though? How are they living their lives? People who are probably very fine Americans now living with the knowledge that they allowed the hijackers though carrying box cutters, etc. Their lives must be hell, surely?

Not to take away from the victims and their families but I would be interested to hear about these people from Dulles and Logan who allowed those c*nts through. Does anyone on here know of their lives now and how they're coping?

I watched the dedication of the memorial in Pennsylvania. It was very moving -- fantastic speeches by Bush, Clinton, and Biden. Extremely moving speeches by Bush and Clinton.

On Sunday while driving the long distance to visit my Dad I relived the day at work, remembering the shock, crying, anger ... raw emotions I'd never seen before from people I worked with.

While at my Dad's I reread my late Mom's diary of that day in 2001 and in 2003 during the start of the Iraq war. Opened the wounds of my mother's death again. I was happy that I put new flowers on her grave before Church earlier in the day.

God bless the families of all those killed on 9/11 and of the military that gave their lives for our country since then.

The way we as Americans handled that day and the days afterwards made me very proud to be an American.

God bless our country and the world with peace.

During every bit of coverage, I couldn't help but think of the way all that footage, all the tragic images, have been used as a tool to rob us of freedoms.

The real legacy of 9/11 is spying on our own people, detention with neither warrants nor charges, secret rendition, and other abuses of basic human rights.

At the moment, and so long as those things stand, the real tragedy is that the terrorists are winning.

I thought I have seen just about every 9/11 video recording over the past 10 years. So I was surprised this weekend by how much footage I have not seen before. The CBS special especially had a bunch of footage following the first response firefighters as it was happening. I had not seen any of that before.
