A Customer Noticed His Waiter’s Smile And Tipped Him A Brand-New Set Of Teeth

I could use a brand new smile too, literally. He looks a lot better after the dental implants.

Well I am now completely bemused.

Was this a generous gift from a stranger with a heart? Or was it a planned publicity stunt in order to make the guy's company more visible?

Either way, if the waiter is struggling to make ends meet, it's going to be a real kick in the head when he has to claim an extra $25,000 on his taxes. I hope there was enough left over, or set aside, to cover that.

Does one have to pay tax on gifts?

(I've heard old wives' tales about rich Hungarians smuggling gold in their teeth to avoid currency restrictions)

The article made it clear that the money was given in the form of a tip.

Last I knew, in the States, people who collect tips have to report them as income.

The man giving the tip should have considered this and given the money another way. Gifts are tax free to both giver and receiver up to $14,000 per year. He could have divided it into two years.

And he's an attorney. . . :)

That little? I'm shocked.

His old teeth were bad ... but the new teeth are weird; they look like dentures.

I realise that the US worships the triumph of artifice over nature, but those new teeth seem extreme, even by 'Hollywood smile' standards.

Are they dentures? *|*

*squeals with delight*

I suspect that the recipient can write off the medical costs.

Thanks for the confirmation otters, i have to say that the difference in the photos is remarkable...

So fucking what. I have fucked up teeth in some regards too. I don't have the money to pay for it so I'm not gonna be happy happy joy joy because someone was gifted a really bad veneer job.
