I got a file downloaded with the ending of .wmv.mp4 format. I'm trying to burn it to dvd but of course it's not letting me and the converter I have won't do it since there is two file types at the end. Any one no how to convert it to just .wmv or .avi. or mpg or even .mp4 or something? I don't have a clue. I'll keep digging on the net for some help till I get a reply, but please help me I need this file on DVD.

Is it letting you play the file? Something you could do is create a copy of the file and try renaming (right click -> rename) it to just wmv or mp4 and see which one plays. What could of happened is that it was filename.wmv and got converted to mp4 but the wmv got left on.

It's letting me play the audio but not video when I put .wmv behind it. It won't open at all when I do .mp4 I don't have the right codec or something about AVC 1, and my Quicktime player is messed up it says .wmv.mp4 in title then file type says MP4 then the file size.

Try VLC player it copes well with mp4 download here There are file conversion progs such as super c that tack the new file extension to the the end of the old file extension. I suspect you have an mp4 file probably created with the H264 codec. Quick time will usually play these but VLC player is my app of choice.

okay I'm confused about super c. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do or use. I need to change the file that has a .wmv.mp4 extension to just one that is pretty much anything else. I don't which to use or how to download it. They give me sample videos or something.

from what you said it sounds like it's it would have worked when you changed the file name to just wmv. now all you need is the right video codec. you can try to use a codec pack, which is what i do. try downloading this pack and rename the file back to just a .wmv ending and see if it plays then. here is the web site for a codec pack. there are three types which vary by size (basic, standard, and full) you can download the larger one, which has more codecs in them i think, but it will take longer: http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm

okay i now got video and it allows me to view it in windows media player, but I still can't burn it to DVD. I need it in a different format than mpeg-4. Anyone know of a free file converter or a way to burn it to DVD. I use the Nero program to burn DVD videos. Thanks for all your help so far, it's greatly appreciated.

you've totally confused me as to what you've done. Did it play properly as an .wmv file or an .mp4 file? Here's what i think happened. You downloaded an .mp4 file that was encoded from an .wmv file. Some encoders just take the file name and extension of an old file, such as "file.wmv" and tack on the new file extension to that, so you get "file.wmv.mp4", which is actually an .mp4 encoded file.

A file with an .mp4 extension and an MPEG-4 encoded .avi file are two VERY different things. If you have SUPER (C), do this: Open it up and drop the original "file.wmv.mp4" file into the bottom. Select the .avi format to as the output, with the DivX encoder. Use the same pixel size, and choose a decent bitrate. Use mp3 for the sound. Convert the file. That will leave you with a DivX encoded .avi file that ANY DVD program should be able to burn.

I didn't get super c downloaded, I wasn't sure where and what to click, it kept giving me video samples the stuff I did download. So what should I do or where should I go on the page to download it?

Oh I forgot to do a follow up. I got the file converted and burnt to a DVD. Thanks for all the help! You all are great! Thanks so much!!
