A Gay Gene? Interesting study

Someone is going to find a "cure" for it someday and then we're all fucked.

However, it may prevent some suicides.

and cause more abortions.

Sorry, but as soon as there's a pre-natal test.. the extermination begins.

This is the last generation of gay men who'll actually live in the culture.. as soon as they can, straight people will be ready, willing, able and excited to wipe us off the earth.

I knew someone would post something like that and it's the truth. It's fucked up how cruel people can be. It makes me sad. It's going to be part two of the holocaust or something...

Not everyone in the world would be able to afford abortions or even the tests to determine if their child was gay.

Great. so all gay people will come from poor families and third-world countries. But you know that most people would abort a gay baby.

I've read the arguments For and Against this research, and I still think the Arguments For finding the gene(s) outweigh those against it. We will all have finally been vindicated of what we've known our whole lives, and I do think suicides will go down and attitudes will change more rapidly for our benefit in society.

As far as cures and abortions, I'm sure civil rights groups will be all over them.

Between hopefully discovering this gene(s) and proving the falacy of the content in the Bible, there may finally be some hope for us.

Yes! So, it's that true, would things change if a gay gene was identified? Would there be mass testing of all pregnant women in the world to remove all future homosexuals?

of course. Christians will make SURE it's a required test and make exceptions to their anti-abortion rule.

The government hates us. They've been fighting with us for generations. If they could remove us this easily. Yes they would.

I just read this on MSN and was going to post it. It's an interesting article and thought provoking. The mention that IF being gay turns out to be genetic could be worse than if it was a choice was poignant. Yes, on the one hand we would finally be vindicated that it wasn't just a "choice" but, we're going to be hounded by "cures", "gene therapy" and suggestions if not attempts to breed out the carriers. The notion of some people trying to find out if their son or daughter would be gay and having to decide to abort like it's some birth defect is worrisome. It's such mixed news (as if it hasn't been proposed before) good and bad and if proven would be used against us in the harshest way. We wouldn't be a culture, wouldn't be a lifestyle, we'll become a small 10% or less afflicted part of society and I'm not sure if I'm ready to accept that or not if :grrr:it's proven.
there is a poll attached to this article and so far 32 per cent of those who voted feel it (homosexuality) is a choice.

go figure.

eM.:-)

I was for finding the gene at first but didn't think of the abortion thing. Now I'm against it. Even though people will accept us after it, they all still would rather have a straight kid then a gay one for one of the following reasons:

1. They want grandchildren
2. They they're homophobic
3. They want to provide the best life possible for their child and don't want them to go through discrimination.
4. Other reasons.

They'd pick straight over gay whether they're homophobic or not.

Things can't go on the way they are currently, though. They just can't.

There are so many of us out there that are scared to death because there is so much hate in this world towards us, we are discriminated against in the workplace, and the Church is the driving force behind every bit of this. It has got to stop. And I honestly think if we can produce conclusive results in our favor on this, this will be a MAJOR blow to the Church and the Bible. After all, the Bible encouraged slavery and said we should stone to death anyone who commits adultery. Do we still do that?

Bottom line, organized religion needs to be brought down and this would be a MAJOR feather in our cap if this can be proven. The evidence is mounting as it is to combat the Bible. Let it keep on rolling, as far as I'm concerned.

We can cross the bridge of what to do IF science rules in our favor, after that time. But we simply can not go on living like we do now.

Remember, people like Matthew Sheppard died because of something he had no control over. This has to be made public and the world needs to know about it.

Soilwork is correct. The moment a gay gene is found (and it will be) a prenatal test will follow. Then all gay babies will be aborted. Then no more homosexuals. End of "problem".

I'm not so sure. Because as I said, the Bible will be majorly discredited if this can be proven. Civil Rights activists would be all over this.

And even though the Church has been vehemently against homosexuality based on the teachings in the Bible, they are also vehemently against abortion in any way. Disprove the Bible, then the teachings of the Church become severely questioned. And the question would have to pop up, "Was homosexuality ever supposed to be wrong to begin with or was it something that was simply put into a book for political reasons?"

But given the Church is 100% against any form of abortion, I'm really not so sure.

I understand your points but you have to realise that as long as humans are on this planet, there always will be gay people on earth. Even if they go behind parents backs and change genes in a child to make them straight before they're born and our whole country is full of straight people, other poorer countries can't do that and what are we doing to them? Leaving them to fight for gay rights alone and suffer alone? Countries are influenced by other countries, when racism went away in one country, they looked down on other racist countries and they soon changed. The people around them can effect their views.

I'd rather fight the hard battle and do it the right way fighting for peace. Being gay is normal and if they have to change people for being gay, they're going to change people for other things they consider un-normal. We'd be following the blonde hair blue eyes rule.

I agree that countries have significant influence on other countries, which is why this needs to be brought forward to educate them.

I am not comfortable sitting by and letting people be beaten or killed in gay bashings, discriminated against in the workplace, or have people born gay commit suicide because of something they have no control over. It's immoral.

And the only way to prove to society that they are wrong about this, is to give them a HUGE wakeup call.

Clearly something needs to be done about it in this day and age, and things are not improving fast enough. To get through everyone's heads that this isn't a choice, you need to combat it with scientific evidence proving otherwise. And it will come out eventually, either by this study, or another done in the future. This will eventually be proven.

Benefits: Less suicides, happier lives, less outcasting, etc.

Risks: Less or no more homosexuals... does this really harm anyone except for the few homosexuals left?

In my opinion those are some shitty reasons.

Suicide is caused by more things than just homosexuality. Coming from someone who's already fucking been there I should know. Around my Sophomore year in High school I was burning myself in the bathroom. Not because I was gay but because my entire family went to hell. My aunt is a prostitute, My dad put a gun in my mouth, My mom lost her mind and I was split up from my siblings. It can be prevented.

Happier lives because theres less gays? Happier lives for who?

Outcasting? Sounds like a High School issue. It's going to happen regardless if theres gays or not. Think of all the Black, Hispanic, Arabic, and Asian people who are cast away just because of their race.

The bible will not be majorly discredited. The bible can (and will) always be reinterpreted to accomodate whatever thinking is popular for the times. The bible once clearly taught us that the Earth was the center of the universe, and that the sun revolved around the Earth. Somehow, it no longer says this.

The church already allows abortion of fetuses which have no hope of survival, and those which pregnancy threatens the health of the mother. They will make another exception to allow abortion of those babies that God hates.

I'm not sure if you've noticed or not, but more and more people are turning away from religion as the years go by. For our nation's youth who are on the fence with this, this will be major ammunition in our favor to discredit it and yet another nail in the coffin of organized religion.

Will it die? Of course not. But between all the negative attention the Catholic Church has especially received as of late, this will only serve to further the cause of resentment towards the Church.

This will not do any harm to us. Quite the contrary and society will be better off knowing the truth.

As of now, I have mixed feelings. The only thing I fear is if finding a gay gene will eventually lead to genetic engineering modifying that gene to be straight, and gay abortions.

But again. The discrimination in this world has got to stop and I honestly think this is the only way we are going to do it ... by scientifically proving that it is related to the genes.

We'll have to see how society reacts to this finding, if we can prove it ... and it's only a matter of time as far as I'm concerned.

But I do think that if this is proven, then people are going to start taking an even closer look at the Church. If the Church can be discredited yet again, especially with an issue as enormous as this, then we will have made major progress.

We can not let things continue the way they are. Lives are being destroyed because of it.
