A Glut of Self Indulgent Bombast

Hi, Ger.

I'm not qualified to rate techno music, but I'm really excited that you are excited and are entertaining your muse again.

And thank you for not playing sax. ;)

Just kidding. You don't actually think I qualified to criticize anyone who can actually play a musical instrument, do you?

I'll give you my very uninformed impression after I finish listening to them all.

It basically just comes down to if you like any of 'em or not. :) Either something resonates, or it doesn't.

Hi Mr 1. ;)

Good thing this isn't techno then. :) At this juncture, it's not so much about judging as if you like it or not. If you don't, that's fine. I'm not keen on country, rap, soul, or rhythm and blues. None of it resonates with me much or at all. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy the odd song here and there.

And thank you for not playing sax. ;)

You're welcome. :D

Is there such a thing as symphonic techno?

The music reminds me most of the soundtrack from a late seventies early eighties B-movie. One is strongly reminded of Goblin, but minus the menace.

Interesting Harke. I would never have pegged it as tecno, as opposed to prog rock I mean. That said, yeah, given that the band was together only five years between Spring of 1978, when I joined, to Fall of 1983 that would explain your reference. :)

I don't guess I distinguish between progressive rock and techno, as my predominant impression is synthesized sound, like Toto, or such.

I'm not really a fan or not a fan of the genre(s). It always comes down to the piece. I'm not a fan of much pop or rock, but like individual pieces.

I'm more into programmatic music. I like form, return of themes, lines, voices, motifs, and such. It is more appealing to me when music is painting a mental picture.

Much of modern classical music doesn't and it leaves me behind as a consequence.
