Taye Diggs will star opposite Kate Walsh in ABC's potential spinoff from hit medical drama "Grey's Anatomy."

The show will test the waters as a back-door pilot, an expanded two-hour episode of "Grey's" slated to air in May. It will center on neonatal surgeon Addison Shepherd (Walsh), a character who has enjoyed a strong following from fans since she was introduced at the end of the hot surgical drama's first season.

It is understood that the back-door pilot episode will feature Shepherd on the verge of leaving Seattle Grace, a scenario that will be triggered if ABC goes with the spinoff for next season. There were no details on the character Diggs will play.

"Grey's" creator/executive producer Shonda Rhimes is writing the episode and is expected to shepherd the potential series.

Why don't they just replace the disgusting Isaiah Washington with the yummy Taye Diggs and call it a day??? If Addison leaves Seattle Grace then she'd better take McSteamy with her!

Before i read the post i thought the spin-off would be called, "Bailey's Clinic"

i dont like the idea of a spin off. I love your idea xyboyms, regarding replacing I.W. with Taye Diggs!!

who knows it might turn out good..or it could flop but still.

Probably the last person I'd want to headline a spinoff (next to Burke). Then again, my least favorite character is the one with the show named after her and I still love the show to death so who knows how well it'll turn out.

Yeah Meridith is definately the least likable character... bitch can't tread water for more than three seconds? Or idk maybe just swim to the damn shore.

Oh man, I hope this doesn't flop...for Kate Walsh's sake! I love her. Sucks that this might mean potential doom for Karev and Addison.

Taye Diggs should replace Isaiah..

The man is simply HOTTT. I'm glad he will be starting in another show...

God no, I hope this doesn't happen, CANNOT HAPPEN make her stay at Seattle Grace!!!

A spin-off WHILE the original show is still running? Call me young but, can anyone recall when this has happened before?

Here are a few I can think of that had spinoffs with the 'originals' still airing:

Law & Order recently did this with the show 'Conviction' which featured a character reprsing her role from another Law & Order show.

The soap opera 'Port Charles' was spinoff of the soap 'General Hospital'.

The new show 'The Game' is a spinoff of 'Girlfriends' as was 'Cuts' a spinoff of 'One on One'

'Angel' was a spinoff of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'.

I can think of more if you need em, lol.

I don't count the CSI's and other Law & Orders a spinoffs because spinoffs feature characters from the original series in their own new spinoff series.

Knot's Landing spun off from Dallas while Dallas was still on, and lasted (thanks in large part to Donna Mills! She was great!:))

I know its mean, but I laughed like a bastard at this. And I LOVE Grey's!

I thought tonite's episode was good. Honestly, I got chills at the end when Denny and Izzy "met" in the hallway. That was sweet.

I bet a spinoff would be wildly unsuccessful, but just a prediction.

Are you kidding me about tonight's episode being good? Tonight was probably my least favorite episode of the show (apart from this seasons slow paced premiere)

Where shall I begin?

How long was Meredith underwater? Long enough to come out looking as dead as a corpse. You can say 'two minutes' all you want but her heart wasn't beating. She spent most of last episode AND this episode FLATLINED so she had to be under a pretty long time. And yet she lived? Not only that but had no brain damage, no paralyzation? Huh?

It was nice to see Denny (yummy) and Kyle Chandler the Asshole Bomb Squad Man again but come on, that dream sequence was lame. I can't stand it that she get's to go to dream land, heaven, death, limbo, WHEREVER, have her little breakdown and then decide 'okay, I wanna live now' and wake up, as if she's in control of that.

I know we have to majorly suspend our belief when it comes to this show (the pregnant MAN, dumb-ass patient lighting cigarettes in a hospital WHILE ON OXYGEN, the toxic woman) but we're usually doing that for the patients and the cases, not the characters themselves.

Sigh, so many complaints yet I'll be watching whenever the next new episode airs, lol.

I do agree to a point. Do you watch the Sopranos? Um hello, could we HAVE anymore episodes that take place in dreams, especially the start of last season?

And the fact the Meredith shoulda been dead like, 4 months ago, I agree with that as well. As I kept yelling to my friend, "It's called GREY'S Anatomy, like they are gonna kill her off....duh."

The fact that the episode was done somewhat tactfully was what I thought was good (ignoring the fact she should be dead, or at least have SOME brain damage.) It just showed some very emotional sides of the characters that hadn't been shown before in my opinion. Plus Meredith's mom is a bitch (sans Alzheimer's) and that was cool how they did that. I dunno. I guess that's all I can say is I dunno! LoL

I liked it in general. She became very un-pale quite quickly at the end....

Never seen an episode of that show in my life. I don't think I ever will to tell you the truth.

Of course they wouldn't kill her off but imagine the balls of the show if they did. I've never seen a show where they kill of the foremost main character. Maybe that needs to be the next big thing. No more of this 'someone important but not that important is going to die next week' bullshit every show keeps pulling.

Oh I defnitely agree the acting was TERRIFIC, especially from Sandra Oh and Ellen Pompeo. The acting is always great, man.

Meredith's mom was a bitch and that was probably the only good part of her time spent in limbo (her mom telling her what she did) Funny how it took her dying to not be a bitch anymore. Yeah, like that's gonna do her any favors. Now she and apparently everyone else that died or will die in that hospital is doom to roam it for all eternity, occasionally getting the living to sense their presence. When I die, I don't want it to be in hospital. Please god don't let it be a hospital.

Not to be too dramatic, but I seriously gasped out loud at the face Sandra made when she yelled "TRY AGAIN!" She is phenomenal. As is Chandra Wilson. Not in this episode particularly, but I would bow down in front of her to tell her how much a fucking awesome actress she is. And I would buy her a martini.

True, and true. I don't want all the dead people to roam around the hospital like that either. But, I guess they had to do that in terms of this episode.

I don't wanna spend my afterlife in a hospital either - they smell funny enough already.
