A group of middle-aged whites in the U.S. is dying at a startling rate

As has been noted, suicides among armed forces personnel are 3 times that of the general population, so this would skew the numbers upwards for countries with many males who have seen active service. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_suicide_rate

It is also possible that dealing with the aftermath of war has produced more opioid dependent males as well as painkillers are prescribed for the wounded.

I also just want to see all the raw data for each country.

Also noteworthy..........

I think the attention getter is the ranking of Suicides and Poisonings as causes of death. Together, they almost equal the number of deaths from Coronary heart disease in this age group in the US.

However, compared to the rest of the world, the US does only slightly worse than a number of other industrial western countries on the rankings for both.

Looking at Canada versus the US, there isn't much difference in overall numbers for all ages and both sexes. But compare both to Japan for instance and there's more of a difference.

In terms of suicides, not surprisingly, the largest percentage are by guns in the US.

Yes, exactly.

This group is despairing. They are not employable and lack the social supports and access to medical care available in other countries. They have no options for survival, so they aren't surviving.

That's a long-standing truth. Suicidal people will use whatever methods are most easily available. If no easy method is available, the suicide often can be avoided.

But American households are full of guns. And guns are an easy way to kill oneself.

Danger of opioids

I got a shock this morning. A friend sent me figures from the CDC about death from overdose on opioids. When you do the numbers, it turns out that there are over twice the O.D. deaths per household with opioids as there are gun deaths per household with guns.

I thought when my doc prescribed me something in that class of painkiller the whole business of locking them up was silly. Turns out that statistically, it's far, far more dangerous to not lock up opioids than to not lock up guns!

I'm not going to buy a safe for my oxy pills, but I am going to hide them better.

The prosperity of the second half of the last century was due to WWII destroying Europe and Asia. That was a one time deal on their rebuild. Otherwise welcome to the real America. Need to change the Constitution if you want it better.

US prosperity during the 20th century was based up the ability of the US to innovate and quickly promote its innovations. Its development of the electrical power system spurred the develpment of appliances. Fords ability to produce mases of autos at a low price gave us dominance in much of the world. Aviation, telephone, phonograph, motion pictures, radio. TV, computers, the internet, etc, etc. Not all were invented by Americans, but we quickly made them available to the masses.

New industries that have supplanted labour-intensive manufacturing and service industries tend to be a little like diamond mines.
They might contribute substantially to host-countries' GDP, they are immensely lucrative to the owners, but they employ relatively few people compared to productive companies of similar turnover.

The hollowing out effect of off-shoring services and manufacturing inevitably have led to the same. Once companies like Apple dispelled prejudices about the quality of Chinese made goods, the floodgates opened.
Now practically all premium brands, ones that previously used premium western labour as a point of pride and quality, just use the cheapest labour available.

The corporate world has discovered they can still charge a premium for cheaply made stuff, they only want the middle class as customers, not employees.

It has not yet dawned on most of our CEOs that without employment there will be no middle class, and, thus, no customers. #-o ](*,)

It can only get worse. Even now the democrats are thinkinh of more burdens for employers. Listen to Sanders. Like all Marxists, he thinks employers are enemies of the workers. Mandatory healthcare. Mandatory raises, especially for women. Minimum wages. And the dictator will soon order private rooms for all alleged transgenders. And Obama is in such a hurry to destroy the white majority, the government has buses at the border to bring illegals in--more unemployed to bring wages down.http://www.judicialwatch.org/blog/2...eleasing-vanloads-illegal-aliens-away-border/

They're flocking to sell to China's new ruling class instead. They're short term opportunists at heart, always looking for the next quick fix without contributing in any way.

All of that sounds good.
Strip rights and healthcare away from Americans and they're still more expensive than people in the third world.
Forcing companies to only sell goods and services that are produced using equivalent workers rights would level the playing field, rather than your race to competing with people in mud huts.

Pull everyone up Sanders style, or push everyone down Trump style.

Job Creators, not employers. You're off your game.
