Hi! I have been a lurker for a couple of years now and finally HAD to join...the Puka contest is toooooo funny to ignore.

This site has passed many a long night...I live with my partner of 18 years in the woods of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan; but since August of 2005 I have been more or less stuck in Colorado taking care of my soon to be 90 year old Grandmother. Although she's in the Nursing Home there is no other family to handle her affairs and her rapidly failing health.

I get home for a week or two every 4 or 5 months but that's about it.

Not looking for any sympathy though. We gotta do what we gotta do sometimes.

WELCOME!! I am delighted you stepped out and started to post. I hope we will hear more from you in our other discussion forums. Have fun!

you're a good man charlie brown! those kinds of things are hard enough when you have close support from loved ones, but being that far away makes it doubly tough. hang in there, glad you joined also. ;)

Thanks all for the warm welcome! This forum community seems like such a great place; so many other places seem like they never welcome others.

It is really nice, when I have a frustrating night, to go online and feel like I'm part of something bigger. Sitting in Grandma's house all night, by myself, sometimes gets really on my nerves and I can't sleep, like tonight.

It is sometimes harder than you might imagine. It's still Grandma's house, so I can't legally pitch stuff into the garbage. And the bedroom is even more fun--my father died when I was 18 months old (December 1964), my parents were divorced, so he was living in this house when he died--and his clothes are STILL in the closet--in the room I sleep in. And although the clothes are all dry rotted and useless, I can't legally throw them away (this is on the advice of the Lawyers...).

I did, however, get a new mattress a few months ago. When the old one went out the door, I found a reciept from 1941 on it. This place is a museum!

Welcome to JUB. This place is open 24/7 so hope it helps to pass the lonely nights. There is always something new on here. Enjoy. Had to do about the same thing with two of my aunts, but at least I had a little bit of family support. Just try not to dwell on what is coming just do it day by day and you will make it. Good luck.
