A New Discovery Questions Jesus Christ's Sexuality...

In the KING JAMES version of the Bible -- Mark 14:51 discusses finding Jesus PRIOR to his crucifixion...

And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about [his] naked [body]; and the young men laid hold on him

MODERN DAY religions explain this away very easily...

But RECENTLY -- NEW Codices (ancient manuscripts in book form) were discovered in Jordan that talk about the crucifixion and the first couple of decades FOLLOWING the crucifixion...

The most astounding finding from the newly discovered lead codices is that Jesus Christ was unambiguously and openly gay. He and his disciples formed a same-sex coterie, bound by feelings of love and mutual support. There are recorded instances of same-sex activity – the "beloved disciple" plays a significant role – and there is affirmation of the joys of friendship and of living and loving together.

Conversely, there is at least one incident when Jesus quarrels violently with Joseph, who shows great hostility and makes wild claims about "manliness". Before, one might have thought that, given Mary's virginity, Joseph's attitude was reflecting the ambiguities of his status in the family; but now it seems more probable that we have here a classic example of the Freudian triangle: over-possessive mother, hostile father, gay son.

The IMPLICATIONS of this find would be WAY TOO TRAUMATIC for MODERN DAY CHRISTIANITY -- So, I believe, as the article infers, NOTHING will come of it...

I grew up in a very Christian (REAL christians) family and being an INQUISITIVE kid by nature -- always WONDERED why he didn't have a boyfriend or girlfriend -- my mothers EASY response was the he, being PART of the FATHER, didn't NEED any EARTHLY love -- or something SIMILAR to that -- I kind of forget...

What are YOUR thoughts???

I read that article earlier today.....I doubt I believe it. The circumstances of it's "finding" and who is pushing it's "authenticity" is fishy......

My thoughts are that you read that article completely wrong, just like the guy on Queerty did. Nobody knows what's in that codex, it hasn't even been translated yet (and it may be a fake anyway). So the Guardian asked a bunch of people, What are you hoping it adds to the Bible? One of the people said he hoped it showed that Jesus was gay. That's all.

I still remain utterly unconvinced that the Jesus' portrayed in the gospels ever existed as a historical person ... so I pretty much consider everything ever written about him to be some form of forgery.

The writings are most likely fraudulent but they really point out something that is not really surprising.

If one reads the apocryphal books that were not included in the bible, particularly the Gospel of Thomas, Jesus was kind a nasty little boy. Teachers were afraid of him because if they made a mistake, they were rendered mute!

Jesus was very different from that which was "normal" for his day. A male would have been betrothed and married long before he began his ministry. His disciples seem to have left their wives and families (there is no mention of Peter's wife or children and people seem to forget he had one when comparing to the pope). This type of behavior would be abnormal and scandalous.

The gospel of John is always interesting because it repeatedly refers to "the one whom Jesus loved".

If Jesus was truly God and truly man, and if he experienced all things like regular humans, then could he have had gay feelings as well as heterosexual?

Oh for cryin out loud. What evidence is there that ANY of the gospels are true. I can't believe what people choose to question while failing to notice that they are standing firm on the biggest pile of centuries old manure ever collected in a single place. Jesus (Mohammed, Moroni, Krishna, Buddha) Christ I've had it with people wanting to be spoon fed a doctrine of alleged truth developed, packaged, and sold by a collection of heavily invested delusionals. I wouldn't recommend buying anything you are sold, religion or otherwise. If you want something, decide what it is you are looking for and go find it for yourself.

Well, all the forgery stuff aside...the Bible had not been written until well after Christ's death...so technically speaking, it wasn't written that man shall not lay with another man (or whatever...) So, Jesus wasn't breaking any of his own rules yet, if he were sleeping with men

I'm more inclined to think he was banging Mary Magdalene though...

The code will be deciphered.

It is much too early to prejudge the results of the multitude of examinations that scientists must undertake before offering their conclusions and opinions.

The experts must also eliminate the prospect that the books are well fabricated fakes.

The Dead Sea Scrolls discovery in a Jordanian cave, in 1947 reminds us that this recent find might well be as authentic as the earlier find. The examination process will take years. But it should be a much more rapid process to carbon date.

From the evidence so far, there's a good chance they're a forgery -- it's going to be hard to offer anything that will overcome the fact that the lead inscription was copied ignorantly from a text in a modern museum.


Point of information: carbon-dating metals is virtually impossible, it can be done only if they absorbed massive amounts of carbon from their surroundings, such as by being buried in a fire, or in a compost heap.



BTW: for someone planning to be a rabbi, it was not uncommon to stay unmarried until age thirty, nor was it uncommon for a 'private school' or disciples of an itinerant rabbi to travel without women, whether married or not -- it wasn't a condition expected to last, once their "apprenticeship" was over.

What an intriguing concept...

Unlike modern religion -- I've always thought of human sexuality as a POSITIVE attribute...

This would put the often chastised "bi-sexual's" into a much more enlightened class...
