This is a little game we played in a first year politics course. It was meant to get all the students to rethink their own personal political affilliations. So many poli sci students go to university already a staunch conservative or liberal that you are close minded to seeing the other side.

You pretend there is an upcoming election. There are only two issues, one is a right wing push and the other is a left wing push. Then you decide how you would vote based on only two simple issues. For example; The Right Party wants to significantly lower taxes and criminalize sodomy whereas the Left Party wants to raise taxes to almost unpayable levels well legalizing gay marriage.

So how would you vote? Two issues. Taxes and the gay life style. Could you live happily, unable to have intercourse with your same sex partner, while accumulating vast wealth? Or would you rather be able to wed and bed your same sex partner and live poor?

Vote and explain your answer and offer another scenario! (It was always fun in class)

I'll take high taxes and the "gay life style" (whatever that is) over anything a Republican / teabagger has to offer, ever.

I'm typing this without looking at anyone's responses. For one, if the left wing were to raise taxes, I'd have to know WHY they are being raised and the reasons behind it. Also, I'd need to know who in particular is getting taxed in terms of corporate level and tax brackets for citizens. I'd need to know WHAT YOU MEAN by "unpayable levels." Emphasis helps hon.

As for the GOP, I will listen to their side. It depends on who they are lowering taxes for. If they are lowering taxes for wealthy individuals and capitalists, I'd be terrified to see them in office simply because lowering taxes for richest citizens causes social problems and economic downfall. I'm talking about people with millions and rich billionaires. The richest simply do not pay ENOUGH to begin with. I believe the citizens on the lower brackets should have taxes slashed in half as they need that money to survive. The rich say that the companies/capitalists benefit from lower taxes because then they can magically give us "Jobs." Well they wouldn't have a hard time employing people if the BIGGEST payouts were cut from the people at the VERY TOP. Eliminate common raises for those at the top because the richer you get, the easier it is to get more money. It's bullshit and why I hate the system. They won't stop all the raises and lower the payouts to those at the very top, but they lay people off, keep minimum wage low, and allow the unemployment rate to go up. The wealth in this country isn't GONE, It's all concentrated somewhere, THINK ABOUT IT.

Can you elaborate more?

Your question is IMPOSSIBLE to answer based on the limited information given.

No it isn't. Basically, here are your choices:

1. (the Right option) Lower taxes but sodomy is illegal.
2. (the Left option) Gay marriage but unsustainably high taxes.

Its a question to try and get you to gauge where taxes and gay rights rank in your viewpoint. They're two extremes, and asking you to choose what matters to you.

I'm not answering a black and white question. Because in situations like those, there are always more vivid details then meets the eye. DUMB people vote based on a simplistic notion, and that's the crisis here in America today.

"Taxes Going Up" is a simplistic statement because that could mean ALOT OF THINGS. So yes it IS impossible if deeply thought intellectual responses are being requested.

I understand Capitalism and how the system works. Its a VERY complex system and different words can have ALOT of meanings or actions behind it. If you want to keep the system sound enough to keep the structure stable for more citizens, higher taxes for millionaires and billionaires are necessary in this country. Legalizing gay marriage would bring tax revenue, so the liberals introducing gay marriage would be helping us out.

I'd vote for the Left, in this case.

If the Right won, I wouldn't want to arrested on a sodomy charge and I just might be because I wouldn't give it up. :-)

With the Left running things, I'd just break a different law (i.e. I'd find a way to cheat on my taxes, as many do in highly taxed countries).

The Left!

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna die in a hail of gunfire against cops and SWAT cause I'll be going the David Koresh route, thank you more money in my pocket and less restrictive gun laws from the right, if they try to arrest me for committing 'sodomy'.

Evil I know but passion rules reason if pushed too far.

I tend to agree with Kris here -- it depends on what is meant by the tax issue. Flat raise in taxes is a different thing than a progressive scheme; likewise, a flat percentage lowering of taxes is different than something weighted in behalf of the poor.

I tend to go with the left position, but I'm not committing to that because I don;t know the details of the tasx plans.
