A problem with computer sound

Once again I ask you guys for help... Sorry... and thank you!

The problem is that my computer makes a kind of a buzzing noise. It sounds like something between a ventilation and a radio when it can't catch the right frequency. A low, constant but irregular, noise.

It only occurs when some other sound does (if a computer makes a sound long enough to activate it, or when some player (winamp, windows media player, kmplayer) is turned on. It doesn't have to play anything, it can be paused. It is both audible with the earphones and without them, although, when I use earphones, the sound is much stronger. If you exit such a program, the buzzing sound stops immediately.

What can be the cause of it, and what can I do about it?

I believe I might know what this is:

Many times, onboard sound cards will create buzzing sounds when programs run, the mouse moves, etc. If you are using windows 7, the fix for this is usually to mute the PC Beep. To do this, follow these steps (very very simple):

1. Go into the control panel.
2. Click on "sound"
3. In the playback tab, click on "Speakers"
4. In the new window, click on the "Levels" tab.
5. Mute the PC Beep level by clicking on the blue speaker icon (which will turn it to a blue speaker with a red mute symbol).

If the problem is static from the onboard sound card, that should take care of the problem.

Glad I could help. I've seen this problem on at least a dozen different computers, all with the same basic solution: muting a specific sound level in the audio control panel.

Me? No...not officially. My area of work is medicine, actually. But I know quite a bit about computers, handle most of the computer maintenance at work, and just got done building a new computer for myself...its a very very very fast computer I built specifically for gaming. I've seen a lot of computer problems in just day to day activities, and this is just happened to be a problem I've encountered before. Lucky, I guess.
