A question about genital herpes

Yesterday I met this guy. We talked for a couple of hours and in that time during some conversation he mentioned he had had genital herpes at some point in his life, how long ago I don't know, but there was no sign of any lesions as far as I could tell. The conversation continued from subject to subject and one thing led to another and before we knew it, things started getting heated. Anyway, to cut a long story short, we ended up naked and fondling each other. As things got more heated I squeezed our cocks together. I was also fondling his cock and balls etc, and with the same hand switched to masturbating mine. From what I understand, genital herpes is transmitted by skin to skin contact.

What, if anyone knows, are the chances of catching herpes from this? Of course, I could just stop sex altogether and there would be no chance. And there are probably other guys I have been with that have had herpes without me knowing. But just knowing that this guy had it, made me think. And once someone has it, can they potentially pass it on to someone else for the rest of their life? Do they become less infective as time passes, and when they have no lesions?

A couple of things I've just picked up on the internet, if anyone is interested.
The herpes virus doesn't survive for more than a few seconds outside the body. That tends to make mutual masturbation safe I guess. For someone without any symptoms but are infected, there is just a 5% chance that they would be in an infectious period. 80% of people with the virus have never had any symptoms and are unaware they have it.
I think, all in all, the chances are pretty minimal that I was infected. I guess I might know in the following 8 days from tomorrow, because I read that symptoms would first appear between 2 and 10 days after infection.
It's so easy to lose your logical thought when you are horny as hell, leaking precum etc. There was no real need to rub up against him, knowing he had the genital herpes virus, and knowing I haven't. But you just don't think in that state do you? Oh well .... Perhaps I just over-worry about these things.

You are not unreasonable. Remember, although you are worried about herpes because he told you about it, but there are other diseases of which he may not have told you or or of which he may be unaware. Having said that, your activities were relatively very safe. His cum or pre cum, if any, would increase the risk some. If you are uncut, that also increases the risk from manual transmission as well. I hope this does not increase your concern, and I would not lose sleep from it.
More important to make decisions to guide you in the future. Resolve what you will not do and under what circumstances. You need to realize your own comfort level, so that you do not worry every time you have sex. It is fun to take showers together before or after, and it makes it a little safer. You might resolve always to take your own shower after. After, mouthwash and something alcoholic and/or acidic
(orange juice, vinegar) is a little more safety, but only a little. Just some ideas, don't intend to preach.

I would have steered clear of touching his genitals, you wouldn't want an incurable disease because your penis got in the way of your brain.

These are questions that don't have an easy answer.

We know that someone who has genital herpes and is in the midst of an outbreak can be contagious. However, there is a group of people who have herpes, do not have outbreaks, yet do shed the virus and therefore would be able to transmit the virus to another person.

There's no way to know the "chance" with certainty.

Hey. So I went to the doctors a few weeks ago and got tested and everything was fine and came back negative. at the time i had a small bump on my shaft and was concerned. the doctor said it wasnt herpes or anything and was ok.
now since then i have been having some itching down there that i thought is probably jock itch. inside of my thighs, my balls and shaft has been itching. not sure about it i have been treating it with jock itch cream and ointment for about a week.
I know i should have a doctor check this and not rely on information from this forum but could you guys check out these pictures and tell me if it looks like herpes or if it could be a rash from jock itch or just a rash from dry skin.

looking at stuff online it seems like i have all the symptoms of perhaps a male yeast infection? this would cause dryness, redness, and itching..

Lucass,
The pimple on your shaft might be a blocked hair follicle?? From what I have read, if it was herpes after that pimple stage it would become crusted, like a painful sore and slowly heal. With herpes, the whole process lasts about 2 weeks before it clears up and then you get relapses. I don't know what your dryness and itchy symptoms would indicate. Is the cream helping?
All clear so far here.

Does the lump feel soft or does it feel like there's something firm underneath the skin.

Perhaps a contact dermatitis which the cream is aggravating.

well i made a doctors apt for monday. i still have insurance for another week so i figure i should while i do.

no raised bumps. just redness in spots, ultra dry looks almost flaky but not flaking skin. itching on my balls and inner thighs still. that bump is yeah an ingrown hair. i do get those.

could be male yeast infection. gross. not sure.

So i went to the doctor and he prescribed me some antibiotics and medication to help with the itching. he also ordered me another urine test to make sure it wasnt chlamydia.

Now today the office called me with results of the test and everything was negative so no std..

now im just curious as to why ive been dealing with this itching, redness, and dryness on the head of my penis for a few weeks and why i had that discharge twice in the am. i'll continue taking the antibiotics till the treatment cycle is complete but im really confused here as to whats going on.

i jerked off today after not doing so since the original post and felt like a slight stinging when doing so.

ill have a week and some days left on this medication. in the meanwhile my insurance has just run out so i cant be going to the doctor again.

any idea what else would be causing these symptoms if i am clear of any std's?

Urinary tract infection?? Although that probably wouldn't account for the itchiness, but would the stinging sensation.

the itching, redness, and dryness on the penis could be psoriasis.. I have flare ups sometimes and that's what happens. I just use a cream from the doctor to get rid of it until the next flare up.. maybe that's something you could look into?
