The problem is, there are a number of things on Facebook that are actually useful. If you can block all the political hate so you just get what you want, it comes in handy. For example: My neighborhood group.

I dropped Nextdoor long ago because it's a cesspool of hate, worse than what ex-Twitter is becoming. Besides, there is no comparable neighborhood group other than on Facebook. Also, neighborhood is not the only useful thing I follow. There are family and friends, other organizations, music and art pages, science, cooking, holiday pages that I like.

They don't follow their own "community standards". I was told in a comment response once, that I should be killed and thrown into a wood chipper simply for being a Democrat. The comment included a photo of a wood chipper. I reported it, and Facebook replied the comment didn't violate standards. But when I posted clearly a joke photo of Trump with duct tape over his mouth saying he should keep his mouth shut, I got a warning for advocating violence. I think their community standards are just for show. They don't follow them. And these "new" standards? They're going to allow just about everything.

So I decided to deactivate my FB account. I'll temporarily reactivate it if I need my neighborhood association page to see what's going on, like with the recent snow and ice storms. Then I'll lock it down again. We'll see how things go.

I am in the process of deleting friends and posts...I suppose just deleting my profile should work...but before I go, I plan on carpet bombing the feed with posts about META's policies and disgust with their shift to the far right. My expectation is that i will be banned...but before I was turfed from Twitter...I left behind a trail of shrapnel.

I deactivated Instagram right after the election. I have not missed it. Yesterday, I deleted Instagram. They give you 30 days to think about it, so it won't actually go away for another month.

I used to think that TIK TOK vids were almost the stupidest, most vaccuous trash on line until Farcebook started to become only a feed for Reels.
