  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

A record for Farcebook.

And once againt today, the feed is nothing more than Kremlinbot pages either trying to inflame cis white het rage or to literally promote rrrZZZian weapons.
The fact that you have an account there makes you complicit.

No question.

But it is also the only means I have of connecting with about half a dozen relatives and friends at their behest.

I also maintain accounts to monitor what is happening with disinformation, particularly with the current US aggression against Canada and our upcoming elections.

Calling out the lies is probably to little avail, but it has allowed me to still have a conversation with friends and relatives and direct them to actual factual sources that I might not otherwise have. This was weirdly an advantage during COVID in the first year.

I would have deleted mine completely if it wasn’t for messenger. I use it to keep in contact with several people.

I've never been on Facebook, nor been inspired to join. I was, however, on Instagram and quite active, following and followed by users from Kyoto to Moscow. I actually made real friends, architects, designers and photographers, both locals and others who've visited me from NY, Atlanta, Austin, Portland and Tokyo, and Europeans whom I've visited in London, Seville, Rome and Athens, and had inquiries from potential clients in South Carolina and Tennessee, whom I ultimately turned down. I showed very little of my own work (perhaps no more than 1%) and no selfies; the site was primarily places I'd visited, art and history. Additionally, DM provided an opportunity to coverse in French and Italian, which I found helpful in learning colloquialisms. About a year ago I suffered a Russian hack and was unable to access my account, followed by ransome offer, which I declined. I was unable to shut the site down--I have the sense, without knowing for sure, that Instagram may now have done so. More than a few IG followers with whom I've exchanged texts have messaged me saying I'm missed--and I'm thinking of starting up again. I did screen shots of my pages, and periodic shots of my list of followers, so with a substantial commitment of time--which I haven't had--I could actually rebuild my site. But, after being hacked, I'm wary. Such is my social media experience.

Which, I'd like to emphasize, was overwhelmingly positive. It expanded and enriched my world.

Meanwhile:

From Law360:

"An attorney helping defend Meta Platforms in a copyright litigation brought by artists who claim content was used to train the large language model Llama has dropped the tech company as his client, citing Facebook and founder Mark Zuckerberg's 'decent into toxic masculinity and Neo-Nazi madness' in a LinkedIn post.

"Mark Lemley of Lex Lumina PLLC said in a post Monday that he 'fired Meta as a client' in a proposed class action whose plaintiffs include comedian Sarah Silverman and authors Ta-Nehisi Coates and Junot Diaz.
"'I have struggled with how to respond to Mark Zuckerberg' and Facebook's descent into toxic masculinity and Neo-Nazi madness,' Lemley began his post. 'While I ave thought about quitting Facebook, I find great value in the connections and friends I have here, and it doesn't seem fair tat I should lose that because Zuckerberg is having a midlife crisis.

"'Zuckerberg has taken s series of steps in the past week to encourage disinformation and hate speech on the platform , to target LGBTQ members on the site and at the company, and to encourage a culture of toxic masculinity,'

As you and others feel very strongly about this, you and they should follow Alexander Solzhenitsyn's exhortation regarding these matters and quit Facebook. As he wrote in "Live Not by Lies", it is important to:

" ..not subscribe to or buy a newspaper or magazine in which information is distorted and primary facts are concealed."

Addiction is a tough nut to crack.

So this just popped up today. In other words, we're going to use our spy software AI to track your every keystroke in order to market the shit out of you, and sell your personal information to whomever we want.
Meta partners with Peter Thiel's spy software Palantir AI, so who knows what other oligarch or government Gestapo might "secretly" get everything you do, and use against you.
This is just the tip of the Zuckberg, I fear.

What I love then is to block every ad and AI page that turns up in FB.

Let that be my engagement.

I hate how facebook is moderated by AI and if you have an issue, it's nearly impossible to talk to a human on facebook.

I think at some point AI is going to kill social media.
