A Single Man

Loved the scene with these two classics:

I saw it on Sunday. It was just OK for me. Tom Ford was too caught up on style and not on the pacing. Colin Firth was good as he always is but Julianne Moore just seemed like a caricature. Matthew Goode was very good (really sweet, genuine performance).

I loved how they used this:

LOVED LOVED LOVED it :)

And I was surprised how gay the movie was.

Colin Firth is a VERY strong contender for Best Actor Oscar
So I take it you highly recommend the movie? Seen most contender movies, but is this one worth the "out of town" trip?

Debating about whether the movie is worth the "out of town" trip... won't come to my town...
You really enjoyed the movie that much? (Sorry, don't mean to be pushy)

What do you consider an "out of town trip"?

I was little surprised to see that this is playing at nearby theater. I live in South Carolina. (southern US/red state for those of not from the US) I thought I'd have to wait for the DVD. Going to see it Saturday afternoon.

I just back from seeing this film. It's really good in a quiet restrained sort of way. If you have any straight friends who still claim men can't feel real romantic love for each other...send them to see this film. It WILL make them think about that opinion without you having to yell at them. I hope this comes out on DVD soon.

A Single Man (2009)

What did you guys think of the movie? I personally enjoyed the movie, especially the performance of Colin Firth, and found him to be quite charming, despite the circumstances that he found himself in. I was disappointed with the art direction however. Notably the underwater scenes that showed the nude male form. It kind of made the movie a bit too gay for my taste, in the sense that it would put off a lot of potential straight viewers from giving the movie a shot.

Another positive aspect of the movie is that it merged tragedy with homosexuality without involving HIV or violence. It was kind of refreshing after all the other gay themed movies that I've seen. Capote was also good in this regard, even though homosexuality wasn't the central theme.

Re: A Single Man (2009)

I was overwhelming impressed with this movie. I had no idea I'd fall in love with it the way I did.

And who cares if it's too gay for straight audiences. Gays shouldn't make gay movies that are aimed to please straight audiences, that would produce insincere and fake art.

The student character was played to absolute perfection by that actor. I fell hard for him.

Re: A Single Man (2009)

I went to see this movie with a straight female friend, she loved it.

Afterwards, I read the book. I'll take the movie over the book. There's something about the look of film that makes it shine. My friend likes the book better.

Having said that, I haven't seen it on a small screen. So I don't know if it holds up on a small screen.

I was annoyed by this very amateurish movie.

But it made me re-read the novella. I sort of enjoyed the novella in my teen years. But on re-reading it, I find it prescient, Gore Vidalish, contrived and mildly annoying.

the whole storyline wasent really my taste but i really like the tightness of the design choices in the movie and that every still frame is perfection in this movie
