  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

A student bled on me today.

why not take advantage of this and request a full range of blood tests on the dime of your employer or their insurer? It's perfectly justified, and good standard health practice anyway.

Dingdingdingdingding!! We have a winner!

Do you live in the US? If so...

It's a good idea to get tested for worker's compensation reasons. On the (very) off chance that you do contract anything, you want to make sure it's documented.

And like Kahaih said, they can't directly disclose certain blood-borne disease status unless there is a "need to know" scenario.

As long as you didn't get cut, you're probably pretty safe. Even then, kids don't have most of the nasty bugs that adults do.

Pff. I wouldn't get tested to be honest. If the school nurse (do all schools have nurses? when i was sick at school we just sat in a room and the receptionist looked after us) said you should then maybe it is because she knows something but can't say. It is up to you. if it makes you feel better then do it. Don't forget to send the bill to the school or the kid.

Don't call his parents, it won't turn out well. They will think you are accusing them of having some weird disease and get offended then the kid will hate you even more because he hears his parents talking about you.

Btw, what age is this kid?

Piggy - I go with the majority here - get the test just for your peace of mind, and insist that the district not take away a sick day from you because you have to miss time to take the test. Fair is fair!! And I know you're perfectly fine anyway...:D

I had to restrain a kindergarten today. I guess while throwing the classroom furniture, he somehow cut the palm of his left hand.

I didn't realize he was bleeding until I found my forearm covered in his blood.

I washed it off as soon as I could.

I was told I should get tested for any possible contracted diseases the kid might have.

I had no open cuts on my arm. The blood made contact with only my skin. What possible diseases could I might have contracted from this type of exposure?

EXPOSURE FROM WHAT?

I say this because yesterday, much to my delight, and a little suprise, I WASN'T diagnosed as being HIV positive.

You might say,''who gives a fuck'' -Well ,of course I do,and so does everyone I had sex with in the last few years.

The point I am laboring to make is that for years of my life I done some death defying shit, most notably,my years spent as an intravenous cocaine user.I have been clean for years, but, still, in the back of m my head,I wasn't 100 percent sure of my HIV status. Who the hell is really, but, for reasons that made life easier for me,I assumed , or, wouldn't be the most suprised guy on the block if you said '' Kenny, you came back positive.'' ...I mean , I shot drugs for years. It's not a stretch.Accordingly, I tried, but somtimes slipped in my eforts towards 100 percent safe sex compliance. If we shot dope together, you re on your own..I gave a fuck as much as they did..

The other day,as a result of my drug abuse,my liver issues,(Hep C ) positive are demanding more and more of my time .In other words, paybacks a bitch and things arent as they should be with viraal loads and such.My thyroid isall kida fucked up and I'm on meds for that.

After the ensuing ''bloodless'' blood bath ,by nurses troubled with,as they say,''excessive vein scarring'' --(nurse vernacular for "you fillty junkie" a simple blood draw turned into a fucking endurance test. They finally registered and hit a vein.Thank God.It was really starting to get annoying, and I was ready to do it myself.

I told them what was ravaged and what might still be able to hit.Apparently ,they seemed to know better than me, who used to hit 10+times a day .But,what do I know? Finally, unwilling to let me do it myself, they let the great nurse from upstairs stab me .At least, she could find a vein as I said she could...

I hung around the scum of the earth for years and years. They were ,and are some of the best freinds I''ve ever had in my life. They are a lot more real than most people.I 'll take them over any psuedo ACLU liberal.I like real, even if it aint real ggod.

I've watched them die of AIDS, overdoses, and abcesses gone wild.Yet,I somehow, and only God I does, came out without AIDS..Hep C was a floor prize..I got damn lucky.

If Icame out OK,(so to speak) a kids blood is is fine.Get tested, but why? I mean,if the kid had anything that may have been transmitted in birth ,you'd probably be aware of it because the kid would be on many meds..

Get tested if it makes you feel better, but, compared to some of the people I got high with,I'd lick a kids blood off the floor.

Holy cow man... don't worry..
A little kid bled on your arm.. so what? you will be fine..

Drive me nuts that people are so paranoid these days.

Contact with a kids blood is not going to cause you any harm.
