Skin color is real. Also mutable according to how much sun you get, if you started without much melanin.

Race, on the other hand, is a social construct, and a pernicious one. If we could get rid of it many social ills would vanish in a generation.

But we can't. We're stuck with it. I'm hoping that over the next few hundred years races will get so mixed that it's impossible to identify someone's race by looking at them. That will help some.
 
I self-define by who and what I am. Not by the gender of my sex partner. Perhaps a function of self-confidence, but certainly not as confining as some priapic fixation.

And maybe that is where Swartz was going.
