I know we don't usually post private messages, but I'm at a loss on this one. The short version is that there is a member who has posted almost 100 message advertising an AEBN movie theater that is exactly like the one we have when you click the "movies" tab at the top of our site. The only difference is that they chose different colors than us.

They are the exact same movies and the theater is run by AEBN. AEBN let's you customize their website to make it match your own. Why can I not make this member understand that by posting over 100 links to the other version, it harms JustUsBoys.

Now this person is accusing us of trying to hide that we are not allowing spam from our members and I guess they think we are trying to hide the fact that we actually are a business and not a charity, lol. Anyway, maybe you all could give us your opinion. I don't know a different way to explain why we can't allow this.

I removed the name to protect the PM source.

Thanks for doing that! I found I was unable to delete them myself.

Unfortunately, you have not only deleted posts including urls but also the truth about what you're doing.

I have removed the posts that had the *** substitution so people will not believe you are a spammer now.

Hi Seth

Thanks so much for your note and, what's more, for clarifying the situation.

Would it help jub if I became a supporter who donates money to you?

I understand that jub needs to make money to maintain its services.

What bugs me is that people believe I'm a spammer when urls in my posts are substituted by ****

I would be happy if you can lift the ban.

What's more the fact that you ban any site which MAY threaten your financial profit, by any means, makes you look like a tremendously financial, profit, and money oriented big bucks company; an influenced slant. In addition, I doubt that these links have any effect on your sales.

The way you appear is is not exactly what a forum is all about, is it? I believe a forum is a neutral platform which is based on a democratic and liberal mind-set - letting users decide for themselves what they chose to like/dislike.

I will stop linking to that site for now, posts will gradually disappear and users will visit your movies section.

Maybe we can agree upon this?

It is not more comprehensive. It is the same exact company:
http://www.aebn.net/index.cfm?fuseaction=theatre.gay

The only difference between us and JockCinema is the colors and header graphics. The content is 100% identical. Every movie on JockCinema is in our JustUsBoys theater.

We make hundreds of dollars per day from our theater. We make $0 off of jockcinema.

JustUsBoys is a free website, but we have huge expenses. We have 27 webservers, 10 employees, and lots of commitments. In order to keep JustUsBoys free, we must make money to cover our expenses. We do this through things like our theater which is why it has a tab called "movies" above.

I hope this helps clarify the situation.

Regards,
Seth

It's not my site. And I still don't quite understand.

Why do you not delete other links then? Some sites that are being linked even compete with your forum and jub site directly.

How much do you get if someone watched a movie in your theater? Does this make a big difference?

After looking at your theater, I would still want to point to jockcinema; the design is more comprehensive (I strongly believe).

Is there no way in lifting the bad? Do you really believe that I own jockcinema?

Oh I see, the jockcinema is not ok. How about linking to, let's say, http://theater.aebn.net/dispatcher/howItWorks?theaterId=***** in the future? jockcinema is not shown, it clearly says aebn, and you won't be competed by this.

Is this ok?

I used to believe jub is a democratic and nice place. Hope you won't disappoint my (and many other jubbers') opinion on this.

It was blocked because it is spam. It is nothing more than an AEBN theater which competes with our own. Click the movie tab at the top of this page and you will see the same theater as jockcinema with one big difference. We get paid for our AEBN theater. By posting the same AEBN content in your messages you are trying to take our traffic and send it to your site. We both are using AEBN

For example you posted this link:
http://***************/dispatcher/movieDetail?movieId=104599&theaterId=*****

Our link is:
http://theater.aebn.net/dispatcher/movieDetail?movieId=104599&theaterId=51828

The only difference is your site is using a cname to white label the experience. But you are taking possible revenue away from our site.

I often point to this site when helping people.
If you are not the owner of jockcinema and you truly just want to be helpful, then please use our theater link instead.

Seth

Hi Seth

Why did my link turn into ***?

http://www.justusboys.com/forum/showthread.php?t=213073

I thought guys in this forum are interested in knowing this. Is this content not allowed on jub? None of the users has told me they didn't like it. On the contrary, I have received personal messages of guys who were grateful.

I'd be happy if you could allow jockcinema as a link again. I often point to this site when helping people.

Cheers,

Re: aarrrrgh. Someone help me explain this please

Yeah, it really makes no sense to me either. If they are truly just linking to movies to help out the JUB membership, then why not link to the JUB version. The colors look like the JUB site. So what? The content is the exact same.

The only reason to link to the other version it seems to me is if there is a personal interest in doing so, like they are getting a cut.

Re: aarrrrgh. Someone help me explain this please

Well, at least now you're not hiding "the truth about what you're doing."

Your PMs were explicit and clear to my eyes. So ummm.... if he doesn't understand what the problem is by now, there's little hope. :help:

Re: aarrrrgh. Someone help me explain this please

well, i understood your position clearly and to be honest i don't know why you would feel the need to defend the business decisions you make to protect and grow your business.

I agree..

It's our site, but it's your business..
And when you do not have the finances to make the wheel turn, we lose our site.

It's pretty simple!

Re: aarrrrgh. Someone help me explain this please

Sounds like this person is making money from the links and playing stupid.

Not sure how it works but it looks like a referral/affiliate system (Hence heaterId=*****) so their system detects this and gives the referral/affiliate money to the correct person.

I think they understand it all completely but are just playing dumb to try and make a bit of money. The only thing I can suggest is giving a "real world" example:

Standing outside of a shop and telling people who are about to go into the shop to go to another shop accross the road.

That's probably a bad example, but is all I could think of. ;)

Re: aarrrrgh. Someone help me explain this please

The other person is making $$ and wants to look "dumb" thinking you won't catch on.

Re: aarrrrgh. Someone help me explain this please

an update:

Sorry for bugging you again

Even though I didn't intend to, I just read your thread on our 'issue.' It seems to be important to you. I can say it was not important to me (yet); but now that you've started..

May I ask you assess your thread in terms of neutrality? Is not the outcome pretty clear when the very first word is "arrrg"?
I'm sorry, I still believe it's ridiculous.

In addition, why did you only mobilize paying users of jub? Did you write to them in advance? Might well be.

Since you started to make this public, I have started talking to people in the forum, too. They have mentioned similar complaints and said they won't return.

Let's see what happens.

All I did was post the message here, but he wants to keep going by now accusing me of mobilizing the JUB supporters. Just so he knows.. I did no such thing. I posted it here. I don't know why only JUB Supporters have responded thus far.

Re: aarrrrgh. Someone help me explain this please

I am now posting my first WTF? BTW I am not a paying member.

nobody mobilized anyone here. the reason you are seeing jub supporters chiming in is because we have a vested interest in the well being and continued success of this web site unlike yourself. it is pretty evident to everyone here that you have some vested, very likely financial interest in pushing a website that is already being supported here.

and why is it that there is always this 'silent' minority that complains and threatens to leave? where are they? if this is an issue that really chaps your collective hides then say something. nothing can be addressed or possibly fixed if you keep it in the shadows. i guess we will see what happens.

Re: aarrrrgh. Someone help me explain this please

Seth,

first things first

I agree with you 100%, this is YOUR site. AND you would like to make some money too, this is not Just Us Communists ;)

But I do have a question, did he get a lot of responses on his threads (or Spam, whatever) about the movies?

It may be that some jubbers or lurkers are not aware of that additional service you provide, and something should be done about that!

I for one was only dimly aware of that extra thing, but honestly it is not where my interest lie...

Re: aarrrrgh. Someone help me explain this please

I must wonder why it is so important for this member to post his link and not just the JUB link??? Why does he feel the need to stir up this commotion? The owner of the site has asked you not to do something , fine you don't agree, but it is his sight and he will win. I also may add, that I am sure Seth does not have to write anyone to come to the defence of JUB. People will do that all on their own because of what JUB is, and what JUB means to its members. I may add that I am not a paying JUB supporter, but I am here to support JUB!

Re: aarrrrgh. Someone help me explain this please

I received a couple PM's from him as well earlier today. I'm not sure what he is doing.

But I do agree that JUB must protect its revenues and business. There is no good reason for links to be added to the boards that would pull away from JUB's revenues.

Quote: "We have 27 webservers, 10 employees, ....."

what is a webserver ?
Is it the same as a web host ?

Re: aarrrrgh. Someone help me explain this please

I guess a strongly worded

"My site, my rules, like it or leave it" wouldn't work?
I mean seriously, you've gone above and beyond with this guy
to explain your position and he refuses to accept it and wants
to debate. Everyone is here of their own free will and like with
anything else in life if they don't like the service they're more
than welcome to find something or someplace that makes them
happy.

Not a good business man to use strong words.

Re: aarrrrgh. Someone help me explain this please

Of course the supporters are mobilized. Most of them have a vested interest in the continued operation of the site since they paid for increased service. Plus most supporters are regular in every sense of the word.

Seth I'm sure you have the full support of everyone in this regard. You have made yourself clear. The point has been made, along with reasonable justification. If for no other reasons than "this is MY site that I own, and this is what I have decreed."

Your request is reasonable and understandable.

He definitely has a vested interest in this other subscription to the service.

Explain it that way ..|

Re: aarrrrgh. Someone help me explain this please

I didn't know someone could be so dense as to not understand your point of view. You clearly explained your position and for some unknwn reason, he can't seem to comprehend.

Re: aarrrrgh. Someone help me explain this please

Ok non supporter weighing in.
Umm you've been more than nice with this person trying to explain the why's and he doesn't get it.
You don't see a Chevy wearing a Ford badge.

Re: aarrrrgh. Someone help me explain this please

I'm curious as to why any members who 'support' this guy haven't responded. He says he has received pms in this regard, but fails to let us see.

Seth, you have one more "Supporting" member on your side. I don't see this guy coming to his senses any time soon.
