You don't seem to understand that nobody is being silenced or censored, even here in Canada. We are simply being made responsible for their words. Nobody is immune, not even our Prime Minister. We can still say whatever we want about anyone we want, but if it is proved to be hate speech, we must suffer the consequences. It's no different than running red lights or sticking a knife in someone's gut. We can do that, but we had better be prepared to pay the price.

I do understand that...I just disagree with the price that one has to pay.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Attorney-General George Brandis will fulfil an election promise next week and introduce legislation to repeal a section of Racial Discrimination Act that conservative journalist Andrew Bolt was found guilty of breaching.
The repeal of the laws that make it unlawful to offend and insult people because of their race will be the first legislation Senator Brandis will introduce to Parliament, according to The Australian newspaper.
It will change the definition of racial vilification in what the government says is a move towards restoring free speech laws to their full power.

This is one of the reason Murdoch backed the Liberal Party in the most shameful election this country has ever seen. Given that Abbott has as yet not even resumed Parliament, the announcements regarding upcoming legislation is truly terrifying.

Hockey, the worlds premier expert in Hockeynomics - economics for dummies where numbers don't need to add up - has announced tax hikes to Superannuation that will negatively impact over 3 million of the countries lowest paid workers, while handing tax cuts to the 16,000 richest Australians.

His also announced a reduction of the tax free threshold from it's currently position of $18,000 a year to $6,000 and today in the media, despite assurances there would be no increase in GST, has announced that the Government will be tabling a rental land tax GST on people who rent the land mobile homes/caravans sit on. This will again hit those who can least afford it with a potential cost of up to $1,200 a year.

Meanwhile the Mad Monk is running around screeching about the Carbon Tax and his proposed repeal and guaranteeing a reduction in Electricity and Gas prices that the Electricity companies are saying will not happen.

The NBN is soon to be watered down to next useless while Malcolm Turnbull, the Communications Minister in charge of destroying the National Broadband Network invests millions in the French version of the programme that will see a similar product to what Labor was trying to introduce here.

Murdoch gets what he wants in the country, and while Rome burns, Nero charges tax payers to attend iron man races.

I don't know when this country turned from the Lucky country to an idiots paradise but it is truly terrifying for those of us who didn't vote for Abbott.

Frankly, while everyone blames the media I've got my sights set firmly on the idiotic infighting of the Labor Party. The Rudd/Gillard/Rudd debacle handed the keys of the Lodge to Abbott so Credlin and Murdoch could run the Government. And what did the Labor Party learn from this; they ignored the rank and file members and installed Backflip Bill Shorten into the leadership position.

Glasvegas, the repeal is centred only one section of the Racial Discrimination Act, not the whole thing. What I find mind boggling is that damn Act was passed with Bi-Partisan Support, meaning Abbott and his cronies signed it.

To be frank, talking of freedom of speech is bullshit. It's designed to ensure the backwater idiot Bolt and his ilk can publish whatever the hell they want. Bolt is an embarrassment to journalism. His a coalition mouth piece.

Hate speech should be squashed.

I totally agree. It should be squashed...through education not government suppression.

Where do you draw the line on what speech is offensive? Many would say advocating for gay rights is offensive to them.

Words of hate should be met with words of logic and reason.

Silencing the opposition through threat of law is the currency of cowards.
