ABC cancels "Roseanne" after star's racist tweet

No, Morocco. But more importantly, what was in the censured tweet? I like to judge cases on their own merit.

The only screengrab I found was like 915x715 way too large to post, I don't usually do people's homework but since you live where I wanna go for my honeymoon..... VJ = valerie jarrett a black political figure and, in case more context is needed, referring to black people as apes is an archaic [and modern] racial pejorative in America

Fuck Roseanne. :grrr: I refused to watch it knowing she was a Trump supporter anyway.

Seemingly she was a complete cunt to people the first time around as well, Sara Gilbert doesn't seem to be a fan at all, as i guess most of the cast aren't, of course Trump's own vileness gives people the green light to think like him they can get away with this shit.

I seem to recall Martin6 loved the old Roseanne show. I wish he would chime in.

ABC looked the other way for a long time because of money. They knew what they were getting. Shame on them as well as her.

Exactly right, my friend. They knew what the were getting and just decided to milk it until Roseanne went dry.

she had a lot of talent--but she always had a really dark side---always burning bridges---and she's gone total batshit as she got older---I enjoyed some of the new shows but I still don't know what is worse being a silent bigot or speaking your mind---at least you know what you are dealing with---I've known people I liked and trusted and then suddenly they go on a rant and you see their true colors---ABC knew what they were getting.

I've noticed that in general as people get older they get a don'tgiveafuck kinda attitude, I even see it in my parents, I think this holds true x3 for people that grew up in more conservative cultures where nobody, least of all women, was really permitted to be vocal.

The whole last season, winning the lottery and Dan dying was a dream.

Dan died in season 8. Things went crazy after they won the lottery. In the finale, Roseanne was writing stories about her life and being rich beyond her dreams. It was, according to the finale, Roseanne's way of dealing with Dan's death, even though we were led to believe that he had survived.

She explained it with a voice-over in the finale:

My writing’s really what got me through the last year after Dan died. I mean at first I felt so betrayed as if he had left me for another women. When you’re a blue-collar woman and your husband dies it takes away your whole sense of security. So I began writing about having all the money in the world and I imagined myself going to spas and swanky New York parties just like the people on TV, where nobody has any real problems and everything’s solved within 30 minutes. I tried to imagine myself as Mary Richards, Jeannie, That Girl. But I was so angry I was more like a female Steven Segal wanting to fight the whole world.

According to this article, the reboot simply pretended that it didn't happen and made jokes about it in the opening episode: http://www.thisisinsider.com/how-is-dan-alive-in-new-roseanne-2018-3

I guess I should have looked it up before I asked. ;)

Rosanne gets the big, fat shiny Boot. (yes it was black)

Stellar ratings and an apology weren't enough to mitigate Roseanne Barr's racist comments, and now ABC is pulling the plug on "Roseanne." ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey confirmed the network has decided to cancel the "Roseanne" reboot....

Does no one want to talk about Rosanne, out on her face in the street? Frankly she's been a racist tool for years, one wonders why it's only now she's having to pay for it. You know her fellow cast members are just so pleased with her just now.

Re: Rosanne gets the big, fat shiny Boot. (yes it was black)

I had no interest in the reboot. I couldn't imagine it being better than the final ridiculous seasons of the original, which I gave up watching early into season 9.

Re: Rosanne gets the big, fat shiny Boot. (yes it was black)

I feel for the rest of her cast, though their silence on her long record of inflammatory rhetoric doesn't speak incredibly highly of them. I still support John Goodman for prez

Never been able to stomach Roseanne on any level. As an actress, little was asked of her dramatically in the sitcom format, which is almost universally true of all sitcom actors. As an offstage personality, she was repugnant. America or the world has no need to celebrate the grunge, the lowering of already faltering standards of basic civility.

Her immolation is no tragedy, as the world has lost nothing, absolutely nothing.

ABC has long aimed for the lowest common denominator with its programming, but at least they didn't mince words in parting.

People can say whatever the hell they want to, but when they are held responsible for it, it's their own fault.

Still, when your own president tramples the Constitution beneath his golf cleats, he opens a whole lot of doors for a whole lot of people.

The 'hate speech' laws we have up her in Canada is often denounced as censorship. It's not. The laws don't stop people from saying whatever the hell they want. Our laws simply make them responsible for it and they suffer the consequences.

If scratching your crotch while making an ugly face is talent, she's a regular Olivier.

she was funny and her original stand up doing jokes about being a poor housewife with kids she hated was funny--not to mention growing up Jewish in Mormon Utah--the original show was groundbreaking on many levels---dealing with issues in a realistic blue collar way like All in the Family did ---but she has always been mentally unstable---she's gone totally off the deep end as she has gotten older---conspiracy theories Alex Jones the whole trump world---and she was what you would consider a liberal in the beginning.

This, I'm only just now learning about her sordid past, I always thought she was one of the good guys, and in the beginning she was.
