Wow, who would have thought? A network actually REJECTING a reality show for once...bout fucking time.

Yeesh, I woulda thought someone woulda replied to my statement.....

anyway, LV, I agree 100%..

And since when did people get so knowledgeable on copyright infringement?

You can't "disagree" these aren't opinions just facts I'm relaying to you. And if you think that isolating and manipulating gentic code is not work and a decent amount of invention you have a severe misunderstanding of what genetic work is. It's hard as shit.

And a holiday is not an entity. It's not a quantity. It's not something that you're going to market. It's not a valid comparison to a TV show or a movie... it just doesn't make sense.

i still can't see how idea can be copyright.

You can't patent knowledge. Genetic code in not an invention, its already there for science to find out.

Its like saying USA put a flag on the moon first and therefore the moon belongs to USA which is non sense.
To put a flag on the moon is not easy and cost billions.

1 more example:
hidden camera shows on TV.
Why theres no copyright ?

Of course you can copyright idea dude. What do you think TV and Books are if not just ideas compiled on ideas.

And it's not that simple as far as genetics. I'm not going to attempt to explain it over the internet but it's not as simple as it's there waiting to be discovered. It's created and often not naturally occuring.

It seems that some feel that the "cost" was related to the license fee of the concept rather than the execution of the broadcast. If in fact it is the production costs (minus the license fee) then ABC should get Ty Pennington and his gang from Extreme Makeover Home Edition to build that house, since that's all done with placement and promotions covering the costs of materials ... heck everyone of these "reality" shows are now so filled with product placements and promotions that they often times come across as nothing more than a big long commercial.

Basically ABC didn't want the concept or they would have found a way to pay for it - BB has never been a huge hit for CBS (and seems to be running out of steam) so adjusting the concept wouldn't guarantee any better numbers for ABC or any other network willing to attempt it.

And as for the ideas expressed above concerning copyright and such - just check all of the production companies that have had to pay (after the fact) the rights holder for Alan Funt's original concept for "Candid Camera" - they are legend!

ABC rejects 'Big Brother' successor
Controversial 'Golden Cage' thought too costly

AMSTERDAM -- U.S. broadcaster ABC has declined the option to acquire the successor to "Big Brother" -- the controversial "Golden Cage" -- from John de Mol's company Talpa.

According to a Talpa spokesperson, ABC was put off by the costs involved in producing the program.

Broadcast in the Netherlands by RTL, "The Golden Cage" has contestants living together in a luxurious house with one goal: to irritate the other inhabitants into submission. The winner gets the house.
