Sam, you’ve retailed that quote twice without revealing the source. It sounds like an excuse from some linguist who tried and failed to understand those grammatical structures. But I’m not surprised they did fail as there are/were 200 languages here and it seems the coastal tribe in my area were unable to understand the language of the hill tribe which just two days walk away.…'developing complex grammatical structures'…

I can tell you the Aboriginal/Indigenous Australians are becoming less of a minority each year. Their population has increased 31% in just five years.*
If I were an Irish patriot —which I’m not— I’d be insulted that so many of those thousands with Irish/Indigenous heritage are so eager to renounce their celtic blood to claim Aboriginality.
