Abrupt end of life planning

They are working on a will and other things like it. His surgery is Monday morning so not much time to plan since he refused before he knew he was sick.

There is not time or money to pre pay for a funeral if needed. Maybe if he makes it thru I will talk to him about it, but years ago he bit my head off when I brought it up. I was pre paying for certain family member's funerals and his and SiL's were ones I was willing to pay for. I think he felt if you talk about death it happens. We had a falling out over the other people's plans I paid for. Maybe this has change his mind on the subject.

As for cleaning; as of a couple days ago he is hospital bound. I doubt he will leave the hospital alive unless the surgery is a success. However the Portland doctors are far more positive than the local doctors were. They just said he was dead. The Portland doctors think there is a good chance he will be fine after getting a triple bybass.

I don't think he would go home to die as they live way out in the country, but if needed my SiL's father did just spend his last day in a hospice, so he may be willing to go there, though he may not get a choice.

Thanks
I didn't realise he was so far gone. I'm sorry. Best of luck with the surgery 🙏

2 to 6 weeks is what the local doctors said if he doesn't get the surgery. They didn't think the surgery was even possible. The doctors in Portland are hopeful though so we don't know what to think. We will find out Monday.

Years ago our great uncle was given weeks to live. He lived another 11 years so as it is we only trust doctor's guesses with a grain of salt.

So after a MRI my brother's surgery is now a quadruple bypass. They are also talking about a transplant.

Quite the change from the local docs saying he is just dead, to the Portland docs saying he has a few options. I have not been a fan of Salem doctors since I got hurt, but it seems they are just idiots now. Maybe Portland doctors are just that much better.

I think you'll find that the hospitals in big cities generally have more expertise than local ones, it's concerning though if the local hospitals don't recognise that. I know of two people, one with cancer and one with a major fracture, who presented at my local hospital. In each case, the hospital carried out the necessary scans or whatever and made the correct diagnosis, but said they didn't have the necessary expertise to carry out the surgery. Each of them was transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the centre of Birmingham where they were treated immediately and successfully.

For years my local hospital had billboards around town advertising there were the #1 heart doctors in Oregon. That is why I am being so hard on them. They seem to be mediocre at best now.

But yes it make sense big cities would be better for a number of reasons.
