Hey all,

I just came to the conclusion, after wrestling with it for years and stating myself as "bi" that I am, in fact, gay. It's a good, yet nervous feeling.

I just don't..know what to do now. I live on my own and hang out regularly with my friends and family. I know that coming out to myself first is important, I just have no idea how to bring it up with others. Help would be appreciated.

It really depends on how you feel. You tell a close family member and friend and come out slowly or you could start talking about guys when people mention women they like or if people ask if you are seeing someone.

There are multiple ways you can come out. You just have to figure out how you would feel most comfortable on the basis of where you are at in your life. You sound like you are in a pretty good spot so you may want to try the more direct approach of mentioning that you like guys and not making it into an event.

Congratulations on coming out to yourself- that is definitely the hardest thing to do, and by doing that, you're already well on your way to living a wonderful, happy life. The most important thing that I must stress is that you'll know when you're ready to come out. Don't let anyone rush you into telling people, or feel like you have to come out to others now that you've come out to yourself. It's best to be 100% comfortable with yourself before coming out. Also, this may seem like a no-brainer, but first come out to those who you know would be extremely supportive- it's always best to have a support network in place in case things don't go as well as you thought.

If you need help in coming out, feel free to PM me, and I'll be happy to chat :)

Hi biguy6in and welcome to JUB!

It's hard to add to the good advice above. You're right in that coming out to yourself is an important first step. Congratulations on that.

Get comfortable in your own skin and come out to people as it feels natural to do. Start with the easy ones and work you way up to the more awkward ones. Don't rush it and make a timetable; just do it as it seems natural and you're comfortable with.

Good luck, congratulations, and welcome again!

Welcome to JUB and congrats on your first post.

You've taken the hardest step- working through things and figuring out who you are.

The next step will depend largely on the relationships that you have and the degree of honesty and openness that you have.

If you and your friends honestly discuss your personal lives, then openness is the way to go. You just take your close friends aside, tell them and give them a chance to ask any questions. Start with the more open-minded friends, especially those who have friends or family who are gay. Starting with the easy ones is good practice for the rest.

With family, it's also dependent upon your relationship with your family. Being out to your family is an advantage for them, as much as it is for you. It allows them to be a part of your life and to know the people that you are friends and lovers with.

When you're ready to start merging all the different parts of your life, then take the step. There's no rush, though.

If you've finally accepted you're gay, why did you register Nov 1st as BiGuy6in?

Before you work on coming out to others, I think you need to work on being more comfortable with yourself. (*8*)

I thought it was bigguy6in. I do that sometimes with usernames.
