My younger brother is doing his studies and he volunteered himself to get into a debate Team. He didn't expect to get "The House Trusts The Eyes More Than What The Mouth Says.". If you could give points on both parties, it'd be great. He doesn't know which party will he be in (Opposition or Goverment) . I managed to get a few couples of points for each. But more would never hurt. Brain Storming time Boyz....Please.(*8*)

That's very impressive lightkeeper. But I would prefer something more complex and has a bit of bitchyness behind the points without obviously letting them know that the points are bitchy. That's the main reason why I seek info from this forum.

Wait, the actual topic for the year is "The house trusts the eyes more than the mouth"? What an odd topic...

Or is this just an informal debate team/club?

School sure ain't what it used to be when I was on the debate team...

I know, right?

Whatever happened to "Resolved: That the United States federal government should establish a foreign policy significantly limiting the use of weapons of mass destruction."

or

"Resolved: That the United States federal government should substantially increase public health services for mental health."

Its formal. But haven't reached National level yet. If it were to reach there, it'd be totally more Civilized and Up-to-date topic. In the mean time, cud you help out...?

Well, see, that's the problem. Usually, for debates, you need cited materials that give credit and substance to the general position on the argument. What you have here is an abstract concept/proverb that is being debated, so I don't know what you could use as argumentative material sources other than anectdotes and general opinion.

General opinion is fine. As long as its accepted and logical. Like I said, its not that grand. However, if there are argumentative materials that could relate to the topic, they're fine also.

Our words are under our full conscious control. Our body language, including our expressions, of which our eye area plays a vital part, is much harder to consciously control and can therefore give an indication as to the sincerity behind the words. The two need to be taken together to form a meaningful opinion.

Is that the sort of thing you were after?

Yup. Sort of like "You have many people follow you by what you say, you have more people follow you by what you do, you have most people follow you by who you are."

It'd be great if there's reference. But if not, I know how to alter it abit.;)

Keep 'em coming boyz!

For the affirmative:

I would use Saddam Hussein. If he would have let the UN Inspectors to SEE that he didn't have WMD's, maybe the whole Iraq war could have been prevented.

For the negative:

I would use Don Imus. His actions (children with cancer, etc.) were clearly outweighed by his stupid comments.

I think a better translation would be "don't let your mouth write any checks that your ass can't cash". Maybe you should Google that...
