Active Duty's Axl tattoo controversy

I'm not ridiculing, I'm asking people to think beyond the moment.

Someone in this thread earlier said 'We can't control the future' and Críostóir's avatar line says 'Evolving...'.

I say we all have decades of future time to evolve and that's a lot of time to regret something in the body that does not evolve at all.

This Axl kid's decision has been a disaster (not that I care).

I'm committed to the idea that people can grow and change (I'm using 'evolve' in the Egyptian sense of KhFR, which is also the word for scarab).

I think we want racists to reform.

That requires allowing their reform to mean something.

That means that if they discard their racist past, they should get some benefit from doing so. (Yes, they should do it just out of moral purity. Moral purity doesn't actually motivate people very well.) The benefit is being considered a "former racist" instead of a "current racist" (aka scumbucket).

That's why I want Axl to black out the two numbers. Shows intent.

Dink,

I like the way you contradicted yourself when you say you are going to give Axl the thread to look at and decide what to do and then by the end of your post you say your very happy with his decision. Which one is it?

A few weeks ago you gave us your ass to kiss and now your right back to giving us your ass to kiss again.

Now, after going ahead and releasing yet another vid of him to show everyone that you didn't care what people thought or who were offended by his tattoo's. Now you want to be sorry. You are a grown man who is not 20, you made a decision to not only defend Axl , but to shove it in all of our faces. Then you had the nerve to erase all evidence that you did so. Hey, I may be right and sometimes i may be wrong, but i own up to what i put out there in the universe and if it's on this site or any other i let it stand and have never once asked a member of staff to delete a post.

Also, you have the audacity to come in here calling people "Queens" like that is an insult. I see in your limited mind it is, you don't even see how self loathing that mindset really is. They are many types of Gay men and we are all in the same community and we should be standing together and know better then to try and effeminate others as a derogatory slur like the ignorant straight people attempted to do to us everyday. By calling someone queen do you believe that lessens them? Their thoughts? Their feelings? That queens have no common sense? Dude, do you own a mirror? But, i guess a guy who can tell his community to kiss his ass in favor of a piece of str8 trade with White Supremacists marking on his body i wouldn't expect to have any regard for the GLBTQ Community or himself. Being called a queen is not an insult, the guy gay throwing it around to make gay men seem less then, Is.

FYI. This thread to some may just be about Axl's Tattoo's, but to others it's about your own comments regarding people of color as well.

Now, let's see what Axl has to say. This should be good

I'm not sure he was referring to queens in the effeminate senses Hellax. I read that it was rather the over sensitive, melodramatic, sensationalising gay men that just overplay things. When you have 'drama' queens being offended by something, its ALWAYS a dozen times worse in their heads than in most peoples.

Do you think that a Str8 man may see women as "over sensitive, melodramatic, sensationalising, that just overplay things."?

So in other words, it's STILL a story about we "drama queens" who are (unfairly and melodramatically) offended by white supremacist tattoos being featured in gay porn when we should just be "chill" about it. It's still not about the bigoted white supremacist tattoos (which are FINE really and no BIG deal) but about the bad, attention seeking, hysterical "queens" who want some drama and are FORCING poor Dink to respond by putting "Axl" through a "regretful" ordeal.

I really can't even believe we are having this conversation in 2012. It's OVERLY SENSITIVE, melodramatic and sensationalizing (of US) to think that Aryan Brotherhood tattoos shouldn't be swallowed as part and parcel of a product marketed to gay men?

Okay then, if I'm a "drama queen" for not being apathetic about bigotry then it's a label I will wear proudly.

Patrick Henry: "But as for me, give me liberty or give me death!"

Lord North: "Bloody drama queens!"

In my opinion, this is not about Axl. It's about his tattoos and your insistence on giving those tattoos a voice.

Why would you want to expose your audience, subscribers and fans to images of white supremacy? There is just no reasonable explanation. After finding out the meaning of the tattoos, you had so many opportunities to do something other than support Axl. Yet you opted to promote Axl, promote another video and post another video.

Issues of white supremacy are no joke. But regardless of what Axl's intent was...what does it matter? Any non white person, Jew or homosexual is going to be offended and most likely angry. But again, you chose to support Axl and to promote those images.

Perfect! I have been saying the same thing all along (but not nearly as well as TallOne did in this beautifully concise post.) I certainly never thought Dink set out to offend anyone. I never thought he was a racist or knew the meanings of the tattoos before the story broke. The problem for me, once they WERE known and he had plans to make from that day forward, was that he made excuses, deflected, blamed those who were offended and decided to use and promote the model in FUTURE shoots. We can't control the past but we can control what we do from here on out.

He may very well be a nice kid who made a mistake or just didn't realize what he did (unlikely but not impossible) but, ultimately, who cares? It's not about him, it's about a website KNOWINGLY using and promoting a model covered in tattoos that are by "GENERAL CONSENSUS" associated with a bigoted hate group.

I'm not sure why we need to "hear from" Axl (this is where other posters on the same side and I disagree) as his intent doesn't really matter to me in the least. I'm not advocating that he should be "tarred and feathered," jailed, run out of town, stoned to death or any of the other hysterical solutions people seem to think we're advocating. I just don't think he should have a future in gay porn. If Dink WANTED to do the right thing, instead of all of this smoke and mirrors, he would have just said he was sorry, didn't realize what the tattoos meant, and that Axl wouldn't be back considering that his body art could be construed as offensive to MANY potential customers (other than Mitchymo that is ;) ) and be done with it.

The rest is just a show.

You are STILL considering his tattoos, thats tattoos, not one part of one tattoo, but his tattoos, you are considering to be representative of white supremacy.

Yes, because they have been proven to be to just about everyone's satisfaction but yours. Is the bar set where only if YOU find something offensive can it be construed as such? No one is allowed to be offended if it does not personally offend YOU?

You say that we will not be satisfied by anything he has to say yet you refuse to be satisfied when people have explained (over and over and in at least two threads) how the tattoos linked together DO represent the AB movement.

I'm not sure if you're just being apathetic or you're determined to go against the grain as a point of argument but, since you don't mind feminizing pejoratives for people who disagree with you (and since I DID agree to wear the "drama queen" label) I will let you choose whether I refer to you from now on as "Apathetic Annie" or "Contrary Mary." Your choice ;)

^ Dear LFAH, I agree with Mitch.
And I would think lots of non-Americans agree with his rational and temperate views on this one man's act of foolishness.

Wow, this thread is still alive? I don't know why people still comment about the subject. They deleted all the good stuff (not talking about the racist remarks). I know some remarks I made were deleted .. oh well

Please Axl, if you are reading this, it's not about you. It's about your tattoos and what they represent.

Your intent may not have been to offend anyone, but unfortunately, once the tattoos came into public view, they have been interpreted, by many, as being pretty reprehensible.

The good news is that you have a few fans of your porn work, people who support your choice of tattoos and a loyal employer. Yay!

And you know this how.....?

Proof that some gay men will sell out for anything with a cute face and nice butt. Pathetic.

This walking advertisement for the Aryan Brotherhood known as "Axl" decides to tell his story he'll need to do it in a you-tube video away from his keeper ("Mr Flamingo") before I believe a word of it.

The owner of the Active Duty website's credibility has been flushed down the toilet where it belongs. :=D:

Cute. But referring to other members who have a differing opinion as 'morons' not only removes any credibility to your point of view, but is a surefire way to attract infractions on your account. [-X

NASCAR today has nixed an appearance of the "General Lee", a car from the "Dukes of Hazzard" sitcom, because it has a Confederate Flag painted on its roof. They have made it clear that they don't consider the program or the car owner, pro golfer Bubba Watson, racist; but realize that the Confederate Flag is offensive to African Americans. A lot of posters here have made a similar point about AXL, that it's about the image not the person.
I find it pretty amazing that perhaps the ultimate symbol of redneck America-->NASCAR, is more sensitive to race issues than a lot of the gay men on this board and certainly more than a portly porn site owner.

I am new to posting here but Dink Flamingo commented that Axl might be responding over two days ago yet so far nothing has shown up. I have to say that the totality of the tattooed images certainly would lead one to posit that there is certainly a racist component to them. However, I still would like to hear what Axl's explanation might be. I have in the past been a member of AD but haven't been for quite a while since my computer hasn't been able to download any of their content for a couple of years. Hoping that Axl or Dink do deign to post as to their thinking on this controversy (although Dink's kiss my ass sort of negates much of anything he has to say!).

Good for NASCAR! I applaud them.
