well i have downloaded both adobe audition and autotune software cause i want to record myself singing halo by beyonce, i have lowered the pitch in the instrumental -4 and i can reach all notes, my problem is that still the song doesn't sound nice like a cd song, do you know any editing tips for a voice? make it like a real cd song? you know blend voice with music and make it sound nice, and i've heard of a ''throat modeling'' you can do with autotune.... please help me!!!

you're wrong, you must have talent but software makes it sound fantastic!!!!

Let's look at what Beyonce used to record her song:

• Years of vocal training, honing her performance skills, practising long and hard. Years of performance experience in the studio and live.
• Natural born talent to sing
• A producer with years of experience, with knowledge about what works and what doesn't in a song, what harmonies sound right, what instruments work, which musicians work well together
• A recording engineer with years of experience, who also put in hundreds of 18-hour days and nights to learn his craft, to know what works and what doesn't
• A studio filled with thousands of dollars worth of hardware and software, with acoustic structure designed by specialists.

Now, which of these items are you missing? And here's a hint - the best software in the world won't replace any of these items.

But a final technical tip - all popular music today is compressed to the absolute max. Add a compressor to your final mix and compress the crap out of it to match the lack of dynamics that every pop song today sadly contains.

Then explain the new Britney Spears song which is so auto-tuned that she sounds like a robot. She probably song the vocal for that over the phone in line at the liposuctionist.

And you're just sitting at home with software and need "tips" on how to make yourself sound like Beyonce. I mean really... don't tell me you need talent. It's pretty clear you don't even think that.

^ if you don't have a really good microphone + soundcard, you DO need to tweak the sound since you never capture the dynamic with cheap equipment.
Think about it like some hot amateur guys doing a video, using a cheap one-cjip camera, and getting rid of the noise later ;)

Still no excuse for britney and the likes though.

i didn't say i wanna sound like beyonce, just sound nice

For instant win:

- add some reverb
- add compression
- equalize the shit out of it
