In the past two weeks I've gotten a virus twice. Both times it was identified as having come through something with an Adobe name, and both times it was after I clicked on a balloon that said Adobe updater.

Has anyone heard of a virus attached to, coming through, or imitating Adobe updater?

I hadn't heard so, but a quick Google around show's there's a piece of malware around that pretends to be an Adobe Flash update.

There's a brief discussion by someone who claims to have beaten it here:

Ok, this morning at school when I booted my netbook, there was a screen asking if i wanted to update my flash player, to make a long story short, I did, it turned out to be a virus, called in sick at work so i could fix my computer due to the fact that there was no info what so ever about the removal procedure and none of the free antivirus programs seem to detect the problem, so just in case anyone esle was hit by it here is what you need to do:

windows vista

*1 open the current users folder in explorer *2 open AppData *3 open Roaming *4 open macromedia *5 open Flash Player *6 delete everything inside

the next steps may not be necessary, but this is how i fixed my problem on my vista machine, the steps for XP will follow.

*7 go to http://www.free-codecs.com/download/adobe_flash_player.htm and download the flash player for your browser *8 finally go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=BUIGP and download the oficial version for your browser

for windows XP *1 open c: *2 open Documents and Settings *3 open Owner *4 open Application Data *5 open Macromedia *6 open Flash Player *7 delete everything in this folder *8 finally go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=BUIGP and download the oficial version for your browser

hope this helps :D

Update to the latest version of Adobe bloatware and you'll be protected.

Ive just been randomly surfing the net and twice the adobe update thing has popped up, then all of a sudden I get some blue shield icon in the lower right corner that comes up saying I have a virus and this new program is running a scan check. The problem is its a virus not a real virus scanning program and it blocks everything on your computer from running basically. Its a bitch to find because my avg program never detects it, and I have had it happen to me twice.

Also now my computer is making a funny noise... a humming I guess I would call it almost constantly. What could that be from? I live in Ia. its been damned cold, is my computer getting to cold?

Weirdness: I couldn't download -- Windows kept insisting I was asking to download a series of Paint Shop Pro images!

So I downloaded the whole bloody thing instead of an update. That worked!

Now I hope it protects me.

Thanks for replying instead of letting everyone wonder what happened...... :-)
I got that info from PC World Magazine.......I wouldn't have known either....... :help:
