Well, there is a problem I've got and I need any possible advice/solutions. There is a DVD which does not work. It is actually a little bit ruined... It has some scratches on it and some unknown to me marks. When I put it in a DVD player it starts playing about 10 minutes, but after that it stops and it can't go on. In the computer it can't even play just a bit. Does anybody know what I can do to make it play? Any "tricks" or advice or anything? I really need this DVD...!
 
i have used a cd repair kit in the past and it worked fine. some people i know use toothpasted rubbed in the cracks, make sure you wipe away any excess.
 
I would recommend a disk scratch repair kit (I use the Maxell brand myself). I had similar issues with a used DVD I bought at a rental store. It started playing, but couldn't finish. I could hit the ff button, but this wouldn't really help. I bought the repair kit and followed the instructions (2 step process). But I would suggest carefully wiping the disc with a clean cloth to remove any dust/fingerprints first. My disc (which I only payed $1.99 for) plays like brand new, and it was an OOP/impossible to find film on average priced at over $45 for a "decent" copy if purchased through Ebay or other such sites (if you could even find it).
 
I'd rather use data recovery software first, before ruining the DVD completely with toothpaste...
 
Do not use toothpaste. You have no way to control how deep it's buffing. Use a CD/DVD repair kit. I use magnavox and it's juts a little CD playing looking thing that plugs into the wall and has two little cleaning pads and some solution you drop on. very easy, works in about 2 minutes. do not take the chance of ruining your CD/DVD completely by trying to do it by hand with toothpaste. It's the same idea, but take the guess work out of it by using a kit.
