Advice needed for a memorable champagne moment

Hey, guys. :wave: This year I will spend my birthday in the dynamic New York and then visit friends in Canada. Since many of you live in that part of the world, maybe some of you could give advice on how to have a memorable birthday moment in the NYC? We will be a small group of pretty young people with a pretty limited budget and an endless interest to explore. :rolleyes:
One of the ideas is to have a champagne moment while enjoying views from a caffee on the top floor of a skyscraper, but it is tricky to pick a place.

Any interesting advice is very welcome. :o
 
It has to be The Empire State, give Canada a miss though, i've heard nothing but awful things about the people.
 
I am going to New York tomorrow...and I was there 9 days ago, too.

Perfect advice, but not inexpensive. You pay for the view, the elegant room and service, the reputation and the history.

And pay no attention to Cormac. Welcome to Canada, we are lovely people :luv:. You can even have your champagne moment atop the famous CN Tower in Toronto too.
 
Thank you very much for the advices, guys. (*8*) Visiting the Empire State building sounds awesome, but what skybar is located there? Maybe you could share a name or a few? I tried to google for bars in the building and they all seem to be located on the ground floor.

Canada is too lovely to be missed and there seem to be quite many similarities to Scandinavia. It will definitely be interesting to compare. :) I will stay with my friends on the Canadian side (mostly the French part) for a while and hope to visit some interesting places there. :)

My heart is racing when thinking about the trip. :luv2:

What part of Canada will you be visiting?
 
You can try the rooftop bar of the Knickerbocker Hotel in Time Square. It's excellent but not quite cheap.
 
Btw, what about some sexier places/parties to have a random (a not too complicated) entry? We don't aim for the gay scene specifically, but may the curiosity lead the way. :)
 
I would do the Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Centre. NYC is really the greatest city on the planet.

Although Cormac does have a point about the people, you should be able to find some fun things to do in Canuckistan too.

I would say that in New York, a trip to Greenwich Village is a must....if only to see the Stonewall Tavern and the neighbourhood that really birthed the Gay revolution in the US.

Hopefully next time you get back to Canada, you will visit close enough that we can take you out for dinner at least!
 
Hit the Monster in Greenwich Village. There is always something going on there and the downstairs dance floor is one of the best anywhere. It's steps from the Stonewall.
 
I love Montreal and Quebec City too. Montreal is cosmopolitan and so chic and the gay village is in the heart of it all. Quebec City is quaint, historic, more Francophone - your English may not be understood - but it's beautiful. The Laurentian mountains are near both but they are hardly epic peaks. Skiing at Mont-Tremblant is good if you like that.

I will stay in the French part of the country (Montreal and Quebec). Maybe we will manage to travel to Toronto, but that is not for sure. :)

Montreal, from what I've heard, is lots of fun, but, for culture overload, you simply MUST visit Old Québec in Quebec City. It is the only walled city north of Mexico. It's on the banks of the St. Lawrence River. The large building to the right is the infamous Château Frontenac.
