Advice please

Can anyone advise? Sometimes when I'm looking at films (often from www.lifeout.com, but not only there ) my scroller freezes. It's a touchpad and it only does it when I'm trying to download a film. It really pisses me off and changing to another website doesn't help and I have to reboot my pc. I am definitely not inadvertently pressing any "lock" buttons and it only happens when I'm downloading films.

This is my first post so I'd be delighted if anyone can help!

i dunno what the problem is, but the touchpad on my laptop stops it's "scrolling" function seemingly at random... It's done it for... well, years, since i got it. Couldn't find a solution then, still can't now. I'll keep an eye on this thread .

When I was using a pc, mercifully it seems so long ago now though in fact only a couple of weeks, I used to get this problem too. It tended to occur when I wanted windows to multi task. 9 times out of 10 minimising the browser window and then maximising it again would cure the problem. I think I got it less often on firefox than on IE but don't quote me on that.

my touchpad on my laptop (hp pavilion) has messed up almost from the day i bought it. i think i agree with t-rex and i suspect with all of us "techies" have'n trouble and not being able to fix it it's a inherent problem with touchpads. i have never had my regular mouse stop scrolling.

i'm really sorry, it sounds like none of us can help, as we don't really understand what is wrong with similar problems on the ones we have!

however...i want to say

Thanks for all your replies folks. The problem seems to happen when I pause one film (as opposed to stopping it) and try to view another, so it does seem as if it doesn't like multi-tasking.

I'm a little late to jump on this thread, but the answer may be of use to others.

Our experience from running LifeOUT.com has been that most video problems are corrected by updating to the latest version of Adobe Flash. Older versions have a number of bugs, including high CPU usage like you described above.

We provide an easy tool to check for Adobe Flash version (this can be used by *anyone* wanting to check their Flash version -- regardless of whether you are a member or not):

If when you go there you see a link to download the latest Flash, click the link and follow the instructions. If you see a green box with the Flash version number, you're running the latest version.

i know the issue from desktop pc with soundblaster audio hardware (and their official drivers) that sometimes when you are having a combination of high cpu load and harddisk activity that the sound stutters and the cursor freezes. a pretty annoying issues, however you can continue to use the mouse, you just don't see the cursor moving but internally the pointer moves and you can click stuff etc

Well, our statistics counting pointed us here, and since we've seen the higih cpu issue with all kinds of flash applications, we thought we might as well give the answer.
