Aftermath In The Wake Of Imus!

Funny that when some serial tv actor called someone a faggot in private lfe we had petitions on JUB to get the guy fired

Not me.

I have never in my life advocated anybody losing their job over something they said. I think that's a stupid and wasteful response.

And BTW, he didn't call Knight a faggot in private life, he did it on the set, at their workplace, in front of their fellow actors and crew.

but to support the firing of Imus for his on air comments is an affront to free speech. Maybe it was because the actor that JUBers wanted fired was black and the talk show host who should be protected is white. But there is no racism here! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

There is racism everywhere.

But speaking of that actor ... Why didn't Isaiah Washington stand up and say "I understand what happened. Don't be so quick to judge. People say things that hurt others without thinking and nobody should be fired for that. Instead, we can use it to be better." Hmmm? Where is Isaiah Washington?

Although I never much cared for his show, I don't think Imus is a racist. While his comment was insensitive, it sounds to me like this is more about political correctness. In any event, it's a done deal.

its surprising he said what he said on a mainstream staiton and its not surprising he lost his job

but i doubt he is really racist

What exactly do you think being racist IS?! You think unless someone's burning a cross they're not racist?

A non-black person who is not racist --and also misogynist BTW-- would not look at those women, or any women, and comment, "nappy headed hos." Using those words in that context indicates racist thinking. Frankly, I think blacks who use those words are racist too, but that's a different story.

Don Imus is an intelligent educated 66 year old man. He's not a 5 year old who picked up that phrase on the playground and repeated it without knowing what it meant. He knows what it means, he knew he was commenting on black women. It was racist and the person whose brain thought to say it is racist in his thinking.

That doesn't mean he's a horrible person, it means his thinking --like all of ours-- is a product of his time and environment, and he got some bad ideas stuck in there. He can change his thinking and this was a great opportunity for him to do that, and also get that message out to his listeners. But now who knows if anything good will come of this because a posse of people more interested in revenge than making things better got him fired.

I believe Imus was fired due to the lack of backbone by the CEO's of the advertisers, the corporations, NBC and CBS in not backing an employee who has been loyal for many years. His statement was beyond the edge, however it was not said in a malicious manner, but rather in a poorly executed joking manner. The good works Imus has done, the millions of dollars he's raised for charity and the benefit of thousands of people is ignored by the political correctness advocates for a quick moment of power madness. We all lose in the long run. When are Sharpton and Jackson going to apologize for the way the Duke lacrosse players were railroaded for over a year by the media and an "accuser of color".

:grrr::grrr::grrr::grrr::grrr::grrr::grrr::grrr::grrr::grrr:

OOOH this soo gets me.....

Where the hell was Sharpton and Jackson at the premiere of "White Chicks"?

Where the hell is Sharpton and Jackson when the Comedy Network shows Bernie Mac and D.L.Hughley?

Where the hell is Your righteous indignation when it comes to every Spike Lee movie? Redd Foxx? In Living Color?

Why the double standard?

Why is ok for any of them to make racist comments and get off scott free but when someone else drops one phrase than the crosses are lit and the pitchforks are grabbed?

Jackson has always favored censorship, as long as it's in his favor.
I personally think Imus shouldn't have been fired; it's a bad precedent: if someone screams loud enough, a person can be silenced. The fallout will be that groups who like to play victim will feel encouraged to bring down others they don't agree with.
The whole point of having free speech is to protect speech people don't like, or find offensive. The growth in the number and variety of news outlets is a good thing for that; this firing is bad.

... make racists remarks and you're fired from a NATIONAL BROADCASTER. Terrible, terrible precedent  .

LMAO, Poor, racist Imus might be silenced now . Who wants to hear from a guy that would call young women... no, no, no successful young women in college "n@ppy headed hoes"?

Oh my, what has this world come to . Racists representing companies that pay them can no longer make racist comments.

What's next? No more cross burnings on the lawns of people?

aftermath? geez, you'd think a nuclear bomb had just gone off. a few days ago nobody knew who Imus was. now suddenly everybody (thanks to the media) is treating this as a world crisis.

Considering what African Americans have endured over the years, I'm not surprised that many of them are bigoted.

Imus still has a future in being marketed as a sleep aid, since he was one of the most boring personalities I've heard. Obviously, not too bright either.

I must have missed that one.
I wouldn't want either fired. In fact I think wanting to fire someone for something said in private life is disgusting.
