I'd eat human flesh if my only other option was death; likewise, if I died first, I'd want my friends/travel-mates to use me for food if it meant they got to survive longer. you just need to avoid the brain/spinal column (apparently it can transmit the same virus the causes mad cow disease)

Okay we're going to draw a Venn diagram. They are passengers in the sense of the present perfect, and either survivors or victims. If you say survivors first, then we already know they are alive. You can't use both. The only viable alternative is to use the present perfect "passengers," in the sense that they were passengers but continue to have present meaning. Actually, the title would have been better to leave out the word "alive," altogether. The survivors were found, that's all the title had to say. That's enough to know that they are alive.
