Airport screening: full body scan vs pat downs

I've been scanned almost every time I travel and really wonder how "random" it really is. Also got fingerprinted once too (along with some others).

I'm basically 100% sure it's not random. They say it's random to not offend people or create profiling drama I think. But I am searched ONE HUNDRED percent of the time I fly. They definitely have some type of loose profiles or whatever of what to be sure to check, and I must fit some of them.

I agree...I doubt it's truly random. I see Middle-Eastern looking people scanned or brought aside all the time, and I feel for them.

Yup. I think the profiles are loose, and up to their discretion much of the time.. but I do think they have some profile parameters.

I'm a 6'1" tall male and people usually cannot precisely place my ethnic mix when they look at me. And I get searched 100% of the time. Often with those baton things even after going through scanners, and asked to take my shoes off as well.

In all the times I've traveled by air I've never been subject to either a pat down nor a full body scan; I just walked through a metal detector and boarded my plane. Of course, I haven't flown since before 9/11.

I don't want to be touched by a stranger or walk through a machine exposing me to rays that may or may not be harmful. Why do I have to pick?

I haven't flown in several years, but I will be flying in March. If pulled aside, I'll opt for a pat down.

I just flew home from Honolulu last week and everybody had to go through the full body scan, and if the passengers preferred they could have a patdown instead. I prefer the scan for speed and because it is more hygienic.

I also don't think that there is anything 'random' about the screens any more. My partner, or I are selected for screening every time we fly out of one airport....where there is no x-ray unit.

Generally though, I could care less.

I doubt if they will pull the machines after spending billions on them as part of the great security net project.

I am concerned about the cumulative effect of the radiation. BUT I am annoyed that when I board in the Midwest, virtually all American citizens, we get the full scan and treatment. They even look under my wrist watch!!
But, returning from Miami or LA, largely foreign crowd, we just go through the old metal detector. Too busy to scan foreigners, and it would be politically incorrect. No doubt they generate statistics, showing a high percentage of scans, without disclosing that they are harassing Americans while giving foreigners a pass.

Clearly this is because the Democrat Party and the Obamapocapocalypse rely on the drug money from foreigners in Miami to fund their oppression. Now we finally understand the connection that explains why Barack HUSSEIN Obama has pulled out of both the war on foreigners in Afghanistan, and the war on drugs at home. It all makes sense now.
