If you are a hard-working American, this video will make your stomach sick.

Lest you think this comes from a conservative source, this was featured on the "Bill Maher Show" -- as liberal a platform as you can get.

Alexandra Pelosi (Nancy Pelosi's daughter), who is a filmmaker of documentaries including a couple on the outed Rev. Ted Haggard, appeared on the Bill Maher show to show the contrast between the two poor Americas -- the poor America in conservative areas, and the poor America in liberal areas.

Predictably, the segment on poor America in "red" (conservative) America focused on poor White people living in trailers in Mississippi, with toothless people saying "It's Adam & Eve, not Adam & Steve!" and "Obama is a Muslim socialist!" Cue the laughter from Bill Maher and liberals in his audience.

But then, Alexandra Pelosi decided to visit a welfare office in Manhattan, New York City -- a place that is politically liberal & Democrat.

Alexandra Pelosi wanted to interview the recipients of welfare, seeking to learn their stories of why they need government assistance, and how they plan to use it.

Here are a few quotes --

"I'm here trying to get some Obama bucks. That's what I'm doin' -- tryin' to get some Obama money."

"I'm here to get some benefits -- I'm here to get a check!..... B*tch, I want a check!!"

"I like Obama because he gives me stuff"

-- Who are you going to vote for in this upcoming election?
"Obama"
-- Why?
"Because he's Black."

-- When was the last time you worked?
"About a half decade ago" (shows off a t-shirt that says "I love big booty")
-- Why should my tax dollars go to help you?
"Because my ancestors came to build this place."
-- What do you mean?
"My ancestors -- the slaves."
-- There's a sign behind you that's advertising a job center. Do you have any intention of getting a job? Or are you just going to get the food stamps?
"Not looking for a job. Maybe a career, but not a job --- Hey, how you doin' " (gets distracted by a pretty girl walking by)
-- It looks like all you're looking for is a date!
"That too. Single and ready to mingle!!"

-- How many kids to you have?
"Five"
-- How many mothers?
"Four baby mamas"

-- Do you really want to work, or do you just want a free check?
"I just want a free check."

before you even use this video to back up your views on the poor, do you have any idea of what welfare today is? judging from this post alone, i know you don't.

Bill Maher refers to the "liberal bubble" which is the inability to see things that are counter to their beliefs

The folks above should provide ...... A level of disgust for ALL as they do not represent what public assistance is supposed to be about

I suspect some of those guys were playing to the camera. They also didn't seem to be too aware of what public assistance they would be eligible to receive. I have some experience with this, and they would not be eligible for much. Perhaps food stamps, but not much else.

The one young guy said something very true. Men with a criminal record are always going to have great difficulty with finding work. That's one of the reasons we as a society need to rethink the war on drugs. By locking so many people up for drug crimes and giving them a permanent record, we are dooming millions to dim job prospects for the rest of their lives.

The doorman figured it out. I'd put him in charge of the welfare system. I bet you a dollar he would write these people off and invest all the money in school programs for the 5 kids so they would not grow up to be so useless. Still leaves the problem of what to do with the adults. I think mandatory work camps should fix it.

This aired a few weeks ago on Bill Maher. He played the "opposite" of this one when he went to the south to show the "good ole boys" POV. Both sides were sorry, some able bodied, some not there in the head, but nevertheless, getting gov assistance.

Because, as we know:

Ah yes... those few people they interviewed are exactly what every poor or Democrat or liberal person wants and believes.

Shall I start a thread about the conservative republican Mississippi residents she made previous to this? The toothless, ignorant wonders she interviewed were all pro republicanism and anti Obama.

Or do you want to start that thread, OP? To quote you:

If you are an American, that video will make your stomach sick.

They used to send trucks around New York City after bad cold snaps to pick up the dead bodies of homeless people who froze to death overnight. We could go back to those days.

Maybe we could go back to the good old days of the 19th Century, where poor children, mostly Irish Catholic, were taken from their poor parents or just off the street, and shipped off to be adopted by Protestant families to rescue them from growing up Catholic and poor. They learned the value of work, many were "adopted," but ended up as virtual slave farmhands.

Because, as we know:

Ahh. Godwin's Law fail.

Ignoring that, the problem remains of how to prevent people who can work, but won't work, from stealing their livelihood from the rest of us. One ethical means is to eliminate their benefits and just let them starve. The other ethical means is mandatory work camps. The second method is the more productive of the two, plus you don't end up with a lot of scrawny troublemakers milling about.

You can give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day.
You can teach a man to fish, and he'll eat for a lifetime.*
If a man knows how to fish but won't, and prefers to just steal the fish from the social safety net, we'd be right to cut off his hands.

*technically, he can eat until the industry successfully lobbies for the removal of even the most rudimentary of environmental regulations, thus bringing out the irretrievable collapse of the fish stocks and the desertification of the oceans.
