Algore, the world's leading global warming huckster, increased his electric consumption by 10% last year. This despite numerous energy saving improvements to his palatial estate. Algore uses more electricity than 10 homes owned by us regular folks. He talks the talk, but he doesn't walk the walk!

First: Al Gore has stated publicly (I can't find a reference, but will post one if I find it) that the large amount of work on his property in the past 12 months would increase his power consumption during that time. But the result of the work will be far lower consumption in the long term.

Second: Your cite is from the Tennessee Center For Policy Research, who claim to be "an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization committed to achieving a freer, more prosperous Tennessee through free market policy solutions."

Unfortunately, but not unexpectedly, that's bullshit.

* "Seeing the Forest" notes that TCPR claims "to be non-partisan but only link(s) to far-right and conservative groups so regardless of what their status is with the IRS, this is a conservative, strongly-leaning Republican organization."

* USA Today blogger, Mark Memmott observes that the "non-partisan" TCPR links to the Cato Institute, Heritage Foundation and American Enterprise Institute.

* Tennessee Center's President Drew Johnson comes straight out of the right's network, coming from Exxon-funded American Enterprise Institute and the right-wing-funded National Taxpayers Foundation.

* The Tennessee Dept. of Revenue has actually termed the TCPR as "not a legitimate organization."

Jack, You are brave!

I appreciate your message, but I fear it is "screaming at the wall" on this forum!

Keep up the fight though! You're my hero!

Algore, the world's leading global warming huckster, increased his electric consumption by 10% last year …

This is pure sensationalism, jackoroe. I would like to know by what percentage the average “homes owned by us regular folks” in the same part of Tennessee also increased last year. :p

The hottest weather in more than 50 years has wreaked havoc on everything … It’s taxing air conditioners, pushing up power demand across the Tennessee Valley … [Link]

It's a very simple concept very similar to making a large investment in expectation of getting an even larger return.

Liberals are almost all like Gore. Good at telling people where they should live, how they should live, to drive death trap cars...etc. Yet they don't do what they preach. Just another day of the far left. Thanks for posting the truth!

The truth??? :rotflmao:

I number of consumer reports have shown that large automobiles are not more likely to protect the driver. They are however much mroe likely to kill or injury the other driver.

Meaning if everyone just drove smaller cars, in addition to being more environmentally friendly, people would be less likely to be injured in an automobile crash period.

Actually, the truth about "death trap cars" is that smaller cars are statistically far safer than the larger gas guzzlers that Americans prefer. Look at the 2nd table here:
http://www.driveandstayalive.com/in...-usa_indiv-states_per-capita_2003.htm#table-2

In the second table, the individual states of America have been shown mixed together with all of the countries from the IRTAD database in order to show comparative, per capita performance on a broader scale. Apart from the USA having only three countries from thirty with a worse per capita rate, it can also be seen that almost one third of all American states have an even higher death rate than the worst of those thirty countries.

Wikipedia notes that the US prefers large SUVs, particularly pickup trucks, over all other vehicles:

Mainstream mid-size sedans such as the Toyota Camry or Ford Taurus are often perceived to be the typical and most common body style in the United States. While mid-size sedans are indeed among the country's best selling vehicles, pick-up trucks currently hold the top positions, rivaling sedans in the terms of total numbers sold. In the year 2006, the best selling models were the Ford F Series with 796,039 units sold and the Chevrolet Silverado with 636,069 units sold. The Toyota Camry, Dodge Ram, and Honda Accord held the next three positions as the best selling cars.

So despite having the highest ownership of large vehicles per capita on Earth, the per capita death rate is amongst the worst.

Back on topic, since Gore's home improvements, his power consumption was reduced by 11%, despite a record heatwave, and natural gas consumption was reduced by 93%.

As I mentioned earlier, stats for the past year are skewed because of the amount of energy conservation renovations implemented during that time.

In February, a conservative think tank criticized Gore for using an average of 16,000 kilowatt hours a month for an average monthly bill of $1,206 in 2006. The typical Nashville home uses about 1,300 kilowatt hours a month.

Gore has said the criticism was unfair because the 10,000-square-foot mansion was undergoing extensive remodeling. He said this week that "global warming denier" groups were trying to discredit him because they don't like the attention he has given to climate change.

Comparing his home to a standard suburban house is also disingenuous, as it contains offices for his own and his wife's businesses, including staff, and a commercial kitchen for formal events.

Alright, now let's compare, Algore's home to Bush's home in Crawford. Let's just see how the global savior is doing compared to the environmental Anti-Christ. Then honestly, tell me who the more environmentally friendly man is based on the way he lives!

I don't care if Ronald McDonald wrote the piece! There is factual data within the article and because you have failed to even attempt to dispute it, you must accept it as true. Therefore, you know that Algore is an electricity glutton, but ignore, no defend it, because he's a left wing kook. He's a hypocrite, just admit it. You'll feel better!

Thank you for showing us the real truth.

The source you've cited is some eight months old. My citation is current. Cherry picking outdated information to support hypocrisy is not a good thing! He's using a shitload more electricity than us mere mortals. Maybe if he lead by example, he might have some credibility. Otherwise, he's just another political blow hard.

Your citation is current, but it's stats refer to "the past year", meaning my 8 month old citation is entirely relevant - they are both referencing the same time period. As discussed above, your article ignores:

*Natural gas consumption, which has been reduced by 93%
*That energy consumption increased while new energy-saving systems were installed.
*That the region suffered a hottest-in-50-year heatwave during the past year
*That Gore's home is also a full-time office facility for multiple businesses and business social functions and receptions

The comparison between Gore's 20 bedroom home/office complex (with guest house and pool), and Bush's 4 bedroom limestone ranch house, are laughable. Why not compare Bush's regular residence/place of work - The White House - with Gore's house? I'll tell you why we don't - THEY'RE NOT THE SAME SIZE!

So long as we're holding politicians to their beliefs, if Al Gore needs to reduce his power consumption to that of a 3 bedroom Nashville home, to be in line with "average Americans", how about Bush sends his daughters to Iraq, just like "average Americans" do? If your argument is that a public stance means living up to your beliefs to the letter, surely that would be fair?

This kind of childish kill-the-messenger politics is just that - desperately childish. If that's your best argument against global warming theory, good luck!

If the topic of this discussion relates to the initial link you cited from The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, then an increase in Mr. Gore’s electricity usage lacks meaning unless it is compared to the average electricity usage for other consumers in the same area during the same period. I unsuccessfully searched for that information online and encourage anyone else to find and report it, citing a reliable source.

If, on the other hand, the topic is the relative energy efficiency of Mr. Gore’s 80-year-old home, we already had a thread about that:

I suppose it's easy enough to cut-and-paste from that one. :croynan:
An important element of this usage increase (which seems to be missing in the various discussions) is whether other consumers in the same geographic area experienced a similar increase. After all, weather plays an integral role in utility consumption.
