i love alicia keys & everything

but when i heard she sold 700,000+ copies i knew something wasn't right .. & then the next week she had like 349,000 & then i was like shes really ripping it up .. & .......>>>By the end of its 3rd week, As I Am pushed 1,349,200 copies, surpassing the RIAA 1x Platinum certification.<<< (wikipedia.org)

so i knew something wasnt right because no artist today sells 1,349,200 copies in 3 weeks its like impossible

look at this info i just found out

>>J Records purchased most of As I Am to make it appear that this cd is successful. But realistic sales of As I Am are poor. And from first day sales according to Billboard.com (Alicia Keys) As I Am scanned less than Jay Z's American Gangster on the first day tally<< (wikipedia.org)

After she appeared on the American Music Awards with Beanie man I lost all respect that I once had for her. To appear on the stage with someone so homophobic as that man shows a complete lack of taste and common sense. Shame on Alicia!!!

Its actually very possible to sell 1, 349,000 record in 3 weeks, U2, 50 cent, usher, and many other artists have sold 1,000,000 plus records in their 1st week alone, Plus Wikipedia is the most unreliable source of information ever.

Buying albums to help chart position isn't an unheard phenomenon, but it's mainly found amongst local artists. What happens is this: a local band will put their CD for sale on consignment at a Billboard-reporting store, and then buy all the copies back so they'll show up on the local Billboard chart. It's not a horrible idea, really - it costs about $2 per CD, and if you find a multi-reporting store in-town, you can get on the chart by buying about 30 or 40 copies - that's less than $100 toget some possible exposure.

But why the hell would J Records do such a thing with Alicia Keys? Even if it cost them only $1 per CD (and it almost certainly costs more), and only half of the sales are via J, that means they shelled out half a million dollars...to what end? To nudge her higher up the Billboard chart? What good does that do her? She'd be on there anyway. And her first week, she outsold the #2 album by about 3-1. Why would J buy THAT many more copies? I'm calling BS until I see more evidence.

yes thats true but like today in music .. i mean u have to be really lucky to sell that much i mean the highest this year was kanye .. with 900,000+ which one reason is because hes an amazing rapper & 2 the competetion between him & 50 ..

its not impossible but the chances of you selling 1,400,000 in 3 weeks are very very slim

ALSO im not saying it definaly did happen .. but i am saying there maybe a possibility that she didnt sell that much.

good point . but if alicia sold as bad as they're saying then that would make her look very VERY bad ... & also Alicia keys is also one J records biggest artist & on of the most sucessful artist right now .. so if she doesnt sell then theyre not making money ... but it would be stupid to pay for cds.

I DONT KNOW IF ITS TRUE
maybe it is
maybe its not
no clue but im just showing you what i found

But it is normal for artists that have as much talent as Alicia keys to sell that much in 3 weeks, her and Norah Jones, are arguably the two highest selling female artists of this decade, Norah Jones's Feels Like Home, sold 1million plus copies on her 1st week, A Lot of artists sell that much in 3 weeks, especially if your as talented as the two afformentioned ladies. Plus the Eagles New Album has been on the charts for 6 weeks and has already been certified 3x Platinum

Enh, maybe. Why throw good money after bad? If nobody's buying the CD, spending a million dollars to buy up copies isn't going to help. That's when you do something like take out more commercials, buy ad space in popular magazines, buy a banner ad on a popular website, get her on talk shows. All of these cost a ton less than buying CDs, and would easily have a more positive effect on sales.

Wikipedia doesn't even have a source for these accusations (surprise, surprise).

"No One" has been the most played on radio for the last few weeks. That factor is completely out of J Records' hands. I'd say that suggests the sales figures are probably legit.

Didn't the Eagles just sell a shitload of copies of their newest album a few weeks ago? Something like 700,000 copies the first week, and from WalMart sales alone? 700,000 for Alicia Keys' album doesn't really seem too unbelievable, considering it didn't have a limited release compared to the Eagles' album.

That info is all crap. coming from wikipedia..

Alicia sold that many albums, i guess people are just non believers about her cd being that good

Exactly! If N'Sync could sell 2.4 million copies in a week why can't Alicia sell over 700,000.

she sold that amount. that was some hater that put that info in wiki.

oooooooo ok lmao

i didnt know if it was true ... i mean i still cant believe she sold that much .. but thats good for her.. but i only put it on here to see what u guys had to say .. i didnt know if it was true..

but i agree alicia is amazing ..but i just didnt know

I love her voice and think she is really talented, but I don't like her personally. back when she first became hot she had a gig in a night club in Atlanta. When she arrived and found out it was a Lesbian club she cancelled the show. She used the excuse that there wasn't enough security. lol

Yea, I don't believe that she faked sales for a moment. I'm not surprised at all that she's selling well. "No One" is very popular right now.

I like her. She seems to be pretty classy. I've been really into some of her songs recently. Congrats to her for the good sales.

Keep in mind, that was a few years ago. The music industry is completely different, and always changing. Sales are not what they used to be.
