alkaline batteries: are they safe?

So I bought something today and when I checked out the people behind the counter said "you know the rules about this right"? I'm like "wat?" They preceded to tell me that standard alkaline batteries (which I have been using) are "too powerful" for sex toys and can burn the motor, and I should only use non-alkaline batteries like Panasonic and EverReady, which just so happened to be the two brands they carried. I declined.

It's true that batteries can have different voltages and internal resistances based on their composition, but what set off my BS detector was the fact that I know Panasonic batteries are alkaline, they were pushing the brands they had, and it isn't the first time this store has given me bad information.

But I could be wrong. Thoughts?

Also, most manufacturers recommend using regular alkaline batteries with your vibrator (such as these Sony AAs, AAAs, and Cs) because high alkaline batteries such as Duracell and Energizer may also cause the motor to overheat.

My ONLY guess as to why this is (now) recommended is due to the cheap ass chinese motors used. High quality Alkalines still only put out 1.5 volts, but they SUSTAIN that voltage far longer than cheaper batteries that sag to about 1.3 volts. So the weaker batteries are just to compensate for the under-rated motor.

Now if you really worry, get rechargeable Ni-Cad batteries. 1.2 volts, and good for 1000 charges. Actually IDEAL for little DC motors.

They should be just fine.

However, if you use a lot of batteries, I'd suggest you make the switch to rechargeables. The Sanyo "eneloop" has been ranked the leading in latest-generation Ni-HM rechargeables. You can re-zap those babies 1000 times!

I picked up a pack of 4x AA, 2xAA plus the charger for $16 at Costco.

No clue either. I do know some alkalines have a longer run time, but that's about it.

Seems there's a lot of mis-information out there.

Pile of BS. As was said earlier, the better alkalines simply hold their voltage longer. They also have lower internal resistance, not abig deal in this case.
