All humans are worthy of respect

All human beings are flawed enabling each of us to learn, that growing self respect, enables others to respect us.

When we disrespect others does that make us unworthy of respect?

There is a difference between treating someone with respect and them being worthy of it.

Sometimes respect is earned. Sometimes it's a gift we give to another human.

I respect believers such as mohammedans, but I don't have to respect any ideology, whether religious or political (and the distinction seems to be blurry) and I certainly refuse to make an exception for mohammedanism, since that would be racist to all other ideologies.

Since mohammedans call any kind of criticism of their political ideology 'racism' I guess any lack of respect to atheists can now be dismissed as racist bigotry as well.

^^^which brings us to the obvious question: Define Respect!

It will mean different things to different people

Yes, to some people (again, often mohammedans) it equals deference.

There are different kinds and varying degrees of respect.
I respect the president and if my mother was still alive I would respect her as well.
If the president walks into the room I would stand up, not out of resect for him as a person, but for his office.
I would open a door for my mother and let her enter first, because that's what men do for women where I was raised, I would not open the door for the president, but I would give him first dibs on opening and entering.

We don't mow our lawns after dark or before 8:00 on weekdays out of respect for our neighbors.

I am not so conceited that I feel as though someone has to prove to me that they are worthy of my respect.

Man, I laughed so hard I think I peed a little.

It is tough getting old isn't it....but these will help with the incontinence.

False. They earn respect not by having opinions -- something it's impossible to be without -- but by showing they can think straight, approach subjects fairly, etc.

Do you respect Eskimo or desert people (you don't know them)?
I do :)

I DO, however, think all of nature is worthy of respect

Not only is it worthy of respect, it demands respect. We have been disrespecting nature in our demands as a 'modern society', and we're paying the price. One thing is certain, though, and that is that nature will start all over again when mankind succeeds in destroying itself.

Whoa -- I haven't seen the term "Mohammedans" outside a history book in a very long time!

Not just no. But fucking HELL NO. Shitstains like this deserve not one iota of respect. NONE.

Opponents of LGBT rights are spinning the same tired scare tactics that have been peddled elsewhere—from North Carolina to Mississippi—that our non-discrimination laws threaten privacy and safety.

But the truth is I-1515 will do nothing to make us safer. Our laws have protected gay and transgender people from discrimination in Washington for 10 years, with no increase in public safety incidents as a result.

Unfortunately, I-1515 could make things worse for everyone by encouraging strangers to confront and challenge each other in public facilities, increasing safety and privacy violations.

While their claims may be baseless, if opponents of transgender rights can wrangle 246,372 valid petition signatures by Friday, July 8, then the discriminatory I-1515 will be sent to the November ballot for a public vote.

True: those who believe in treating others like shit on the base of some category of which they disapprove are not worthy of respect. They are extra-terrestrials, terrestrials we could do without.
