I know it's way too early to determine if "All My Children" is coming out of it's most uncreative and panned period in it's 37-year-history since head writer Megan McTavish's stories are winding down, but I'd like to think that there is hope and that this may be the time to invest in some good stories similar to those told in "AMC's" glory day.
For the past year I have been catching the show, at most, once a week but this past week I actually (gasp!) watched two solid hours and here's how I feel things went down with my expanded viewing "pleasure":
For starters, the shows were not unbearable to watch which was the case in almost every episode since 2005. The upcoming exit to the transgendered Zoe storyline is a step in the right direction but it's a shame Eden Riegel (Bianca) has opted to head out the door with this insulting storyline. My hunch is is that the Emmy winner is embarassed to have been apart of this storyline and feels she is doing a disservice to gay youths around the world whom formerly looked up to her as a role model.
Riegel's sister in real life is in fact, lesbian. And being gay myself, I can not imagine that her sister gave her any encouraging words about this storyline. I'm not even going to jump on my soapbox and count all the atrocities this story is full of.
Instead of placing Bianca in an unrealistic storyline where a transvestite falls in love with her (and she falls back, basically making her straight!) why not explore the magnitude of storyline with Maggie!
I thought it was absolutely fantastic that the writers wrote infidelity into the story because just like heterosexual couples, this happens in our world. In fact, a lesbian couple here in Oklahoma (whom went out of state to legalize their union), recently became the first same-sex divorce. If the writers are so parched for creative ideas, why not steal that one from the headlines?
I can't stand newbies (hi, half the under-25 year olds on AMC!) but I am downright digging Zach's ex-wife. Kudos to the casting department for hiring Stacy Haiduk to play Hannah Nichols.
Annie. She's not that bad. I still think she looks more like original Greenlee than Greenlee herself. Too bad she's being added to the Lavery clan which has been way too populous over the past four or five years anyway.
Does the show feel like it needs to have a twin storyline every five years or so? If it's not Adam/Stuart, Tad/Ted, Natalie/Janet, it's somebody. Yet I feel I might actually like the bad girl Levin Rambin is playing. I know I'll get tomatoes thrown at me for saying this, but I dred any scenes Lily is in. I realize her situation but she just makes me antsy watching her. Let's just hope that if this storyline does take off that Eva isn't reformed and turned into a heroine within the next six months. Can't a bad girl stay just that? A bad girl!
I am actually sympathizing with David Canary's Adam and love seeing him interact with Kate Collins' Janet. I didn't begin watching AMC until late 1992 so I missed the initial teaming of Canary with Collins' Natalie. Let's have a lot more of these two. Adam's a baddie to the core and Janet is crazy ... like a fox! As for her daughter Amanda? Well I think I liked her better as a primadonna (see aforementioned "bad girls reformed too soon").
Love J.R. no matter how stupified his character has become thanks to Babe. I mean Jacob Young is the ultimate in eye candy! And as for Babe and her utterly senseless "mama," Krystal. Well I for one still haven't forgiven them for what they did to Bianca three years ago.
Dr./President /Soccer Coach etc. Jamie Martin? Zzzzz. Did somebody say him and Babe might take off for California? That's one bus fare I'd gladly contribute to.
Aiden. Five years into Aiden Turner's run on AMC and I still can't understand half the dialogue he is speaking.
So in synopsis, I guess the scales still aren't tipping in AMC's favor but there is one good thing I CAN say about the show: They have put a cease halt to those shakey camera angles they unsuccessfuly began using last year. That's something, isn't it?!?!

I don't understand why they bring in new character and stories when they haven't done anything with the ones they already have going on.
