yikes.... I'll be sending this to my friends that are teachers! In San Diego too! o.o

interesting comment on the article...how did the school find out? Big Brother? or one of them looking for gay sex?...

That's kind of funny because one time (when I used Craigslist for meeting guys) I met a teacher on there. He was pretty damn good in the sack, too! But unfortunately it was nothing more than a hook-up. Something I've grown very tired of... but there are sure teachers lurking on that site.

Lampedusa had been the dean of students at Farb Middle School. He lost that job after an anonymous tipster contacted police to report that Lampedusa had posted photos of himself--including photos of his genitalia, face, and anus--online.

Oh come on...does this guy have no common sense? I don't care that he was looking for sex online but he should've known to use more discretion, especially considering his position. He attached his face to that explicit ad which could be seen by ANYONE. All he had to do was keep his face picture to himself, and use judgement to show it PRIVATELY to INDIVIDUALS. Instead, he posts it on a site that's not 'members only', and that anyone with an internet connection can access. Idiot.

Adults should have the right to do whatever they want. I'm sure female teachers post pics on Craigslist too. Teaching should not have a morals clause when you don't do anything illegal.

Wow...if any of you are teachers, and you belong to manhunt or any of the other hookup sites, you should seriously consider deleting your account. I don't see why a school should have a right to fire someone for this.

if a teacher, of all persons, is stupid enough to post his pictures - facial and or nude he deserves to be fired from his job. he is in violation of a state's educational code besides a moral code of conduct he accepts when he begins teaching. if a teacher is not smart enough to realize what is appropriate behoviour then that is his fault and he deserves the consequences. let him mail pictures privately but not post them on the internet.

The guy posted it on Craig's list, of all places! My guess is one of his middle school students was poking around on there and opened the MsM section on a joke (or even a dare) and saw his teacer's naked pics and the
graphic description of the types of activities he enjoys in the bedroom
that he openly posted publicly.

Whether he was looking for straight or gay sex, to post that type of info openly on a site like Craig's list is definitely NOT appropriate. He should have posted on a more private site.

You are missing a few very important points to the story, and taking the rest out of context.

1) the guy didn't use a more private site like manhunt, or any of the others. He used the very public site of Craig's list.

2) he posted graphic details of his precise desires as well as naked pics on the public site.

3) he is teaching (very impressionable) middle school kids.

Nowhere in there did it mention anything about private sites. If he had used one of them instead things would have been fine. And it would be no different if he had done the same thing while seeking a woman.

At the extreme end, one could wonder if teachers dare admit they have children -- that would by definition mean they're announcing they engage in sexual activity.

At the other end, who cares? If kids these days aren't aware their teachers are sexual critters like anyone else, they're missing out on the "public" education conferred by society.

If it was just naked pictures, I wouldn't have a problem -- it's the explicit ones connected with descriptions of his desires. Only someone with no public standing whatsoever should be posting such things.

So... he's an idiot. If he were a chimney cleaner who worked alone, this would be no big deal. But as I learned in the OSU School of Education, "Whatever you do, teaches".

I have a friend who's a teacher and is on adam4adam. Was going to warn him, but if it doesn't include private sites, then I suppose he should be fine.

In this internet connected "social world" that we live in today, the lines of privacy and "personal boundary rights" is changing. There are rules (not laws) in schools saying what kids can and cannot post in their facebook/online blogs if it affects the school, so the same rule has to apply to the teachers. Yes, the teacher has a right to a private life, but since the computer age has blurred the lines between private and public, he should have know that as a teacher, he is held to higher/different standards than those who do not work with kids......

Typical. Teachers aren't teachers in their free time. IF a student were to see them on those pages, then those students would (a) be of age and therefore not exposed to anything inappropriate or (b) not of age and thus in violation of the terms of use, which is not the teacher's fault.
It's ridiculous.

I had to go back and reread the article because it has been some time since I posted here.

The point is the Middle School teacher posted a PUBLIC message on a board accessible to all. It doesn't matter if it was gay sex or not. When the teacher steps into the classroom he/she needs to have the respect of the students or he/she will not be able to teach them. This teacher lost that respect with his over-the-top sex ad. He wasn't just looking for someone to date, he posted nude pics, he was looking for a quick hook-up, a one-night-stand type of thing. If he had kept it to more private sites he would have been fine, but he went public with it.

You are forgetting that parents/relatives of middle school children also use the internet and may wander onto craigslist. Many of them do not want their children being taught by someone who throws naked pictures of him/herself out where they can easily be seen by anyone. And craigslist's age verification system is a joke. All one has to do is click on a button claiming to be at least 18. The teacher is the adult and is expected to act like one. It is expected the children will be (and act like) children, this includes sneaking onto "adult" sections of general sites.

This isn't about him being gay, it isn't even about him posting an ad for sex. It is about him posting naked pictures where it is reasonably assumed minors will see them. That is most definitely not the action of one who should be allowed to teach children.
