So my bf Micheal told me the other day that I was different from all the other gay guys that he had ever met in almost everyway...

The first thing he mentioned was my main hobby, Cars... He said he had never met someone so interested in cars as me. The main thing I work on outside of his anatomy and school work is my car... He didnt say it was a bad thing, but definitly different...

Then the next is my taste in music. I listen to heavy metal, classic rock, general rock, some rap, and well anything but country... But mainly rock...

Also that I have Zero fashion sense at all. I mean none what so ever. My idea of lookin good is pretty bland... I generally wear a quicksilver t-shirt, anchor blue loose fit jeans, and etnies... That is my wardrobe... Except for a few nice button up shirts I have... That are all navy blue or black and one about the color of blood.

When he first met me he said that I made not even a blip on the gaydar. At first impression I was totally straight... He told me that if I never told him I was gay he never would have known, ever!

So my question is, am I that weird, I mean after talking to him its no wonder anyone knew I was gay at All!...

Any feedback is good, is anyone in the same boat?

After thinkin 'bout this I wonder if some of my straight-acting-ness is from my secrecy for so long and focusing on hiding it for so long that it jsut became who I was after all.

I don't think you're an anomaly; I think you're an individual

Don't change

not filling a stereotype does not equate anomaly...

wow, i do exactly the SAME things, i mean, one of my hobbies are CARS, i listen just to heavy and power metal, and i have NO fashion sense at all, lol, i just think that you (as a gay or bi) dont have to necessarily be like the stereotyped "gay" to actually be one, and I'm glad that you dont wanna change, keep it that way, cuz that what makes you be the person you are now, congrats!!!!

No your not your you and that is a great thing!!...My fiance is into cars and photography...I am into model trains which I have yet to meet a gay guy into trains..lol.....Most people that I know that are gay are not into any of what we are into and it makes life even better!!....;)

I'm into Diesel mechanics, acoustic music, have no fashion sense, HATE shopping, and couldn't care less about antiques or art galleries. I despise smoking, don't drink, hate bars and can build or fix anything. I guess I'm not your typical gay guy either. BUT, I don't think my boyfriend would have it any other way.

Well if you're an anomaly, I'm one with you. Rock music and no fashion sense. Although I'm not so much a gearhead. But I'm a huge sports fan, and not just because the guys look good.

I have a feeling your boyfriend is VERY glad you are who you are! He is probably glad you are'nt another cookie cutter stereotypical homo who loves fashion and dance music. One of my main passions is cars as well, so i love that in a guy.
It would be a pretty boring world if we could tell everything about someone just by looking at them! It always amuses me when i get hit on by women who just assume i'm straight.

You're not that unusual at all.

All homos don't just spend their time thumbing through Vogue and waiting for the dance palaces to open.

Hey Spencer,

Hell yeah... you are an anomaly. A huge one. In fact I'd go as far as to say that it sounds like you are the biggest anomaly since the Toyota Prius (being a car guy I'm sure you get that!).

And you know what??? Thank GOD!!!!

You mate are an individual. You are you. And thats why your bf has a pretty keen understanding of your anatomy as well. He sees all the other things in you as well as those he told you about... your values, morals, sense of humor, the way you kiss, the way you make him feel... the way you love and cherish those around you. Thats why you're an anomaly....

As for some of your traits....

Hell mate... I'm the biggest rev head you ever met. Cars are my babies... especially the one in my garage too. And I'm a one make guy....

I love AFL - one of our codes of football. It drive my mates nuts.

I dont care what I wear so much as long as I dont look like shite or too stupid.

And I've told nearly all the people in the world that I care about that I'm gay... and no one knew!

Nah mate... you're not an anomaly. You're you.

And by the sounds of it, that makes you a bloody good bloke!

Thanks guys...

Micheal finished the conversation by telling me that these were some of the reasons he loves me... Which I thought was sweet.

One of the things that he mentioned but I did not in my post was my political views...

I am a major Libertarian, call me heartless, but I definilty believe the gov should let us marry whom ever we want!!!

So is that more strange?

Nope, dude.

You are precious. If I had not been happily partnered and, if I had one wish, that would be to find a dude like yourself.

So, keep it up and have fun.

There are many gay guys like. You sound a lot like me. So you don't fit the stereotypes. Big deal. The stereotypes are primarily a result of the guys who didn't remain in the closet when being gay was perceived as such a bad thing. As more and more guys come out of the closet, the stereotypes will fade.

Not all gay guys fit the stereotype. In fact, I try hard to show people that not all gay people are femmes.

However, the term "straight acting" is ironic.

I'm all for personal expression and "we're all unique", but did anyone read his last paragraph?

I think it's rather telling.

There seems to be a lot of I-don't-act-gay backslapping on this thread.

I'm not saying everyone has to fit the gay prototype, but saying I didn't fit the prototype was one sword in my arsenal of "I'm-not-gay" denial.

Just a thought.

After thinkin 'bout this I wonder if some of my straight-acting-ness is from my secrecy for so long and focusing on hiding it for so long that it jsut became who I was after all.

Actually I try to act straight, it doesn't always work. I'm still trying to hide that I'm gay. But I have no fashion sense. I don't like cars, but anyway.....

What I meant was that looking back at how I was when I was a little kid was more "stereotypical" than me now. I was different then but then as I made sure I followed the example of my moms many boyfriends I changed. That change then became more than an act... But I have always loved cars... When I was 2 ( according to the entire fam who hated trips with me because of this) I could name 99% of the cars on the road. lol

Well thanks guys, these posts are really nice... (*8*)

I would definitly have to agree with this...

If we were all the same, what's the point?"

Wow, isuckmen, you sound just like me at that age. I'm going to PM you.
