That's SO weird to me.

Okay so "flat daddy" is supposed to help her deal with "separation pain" of not being around daddy because daddy is in afghanastan. (sp? sorry it's too early in the morning for me). Why wouldn't it be healthy for her to feel separation pain? Let's not let our little kids feel any pain at all because they won't when they're adults!!

I remember years ago reading a sociology article that theorized that turn of the century (19th - 20th) men and women were far more emotionally healthier than we are today because they regularly faced pains that we've done a great job of completely eliminating - death of a child during child birth, death of wife due to child birth, husbands returning from war missing limbs with no modern science like today, serious illness, great deformaties that could not be eliminated with plastic surgery ... and so on ...

So if the "real daddy" gets killed in action, is the "flat daddy" gonna stay around, or is he gonna be sent to the paper shredder...?

If the "real daddy" comes home, and starts taking control of the family again, and all of sudden the little girl realizes "real daddy" talks, and controls, and maybe spanks, is she gonna wish "flat daddy" who never did anything but just sit there, would come back...?

Yeah, it's kinda creepy; but look at it this way.........a small child only gets to look at photos of their Dad, who's away, say for a year in combat....but if the "Flat-Daddy" adds another dimension to the child's fantasy, whereas, Dad is always there for her/him, even going to the "tucking-in" at bed-time....

I think Psychiatrist would say it is healthy if NOT taken too far........say if the Dad should die, then the Flat-Dad would have to go too....

I think with the Flat-Dad and telephone calls that help to re-inforce that Dad is "real" in Iraq, then it could/would work!

I would want my child to remember me if I was there, any way "they" could make it happen!!

At first it was kinda sweet but when they started taking it to places, taking pictures of it.... that's when the awww turned to ewwww. I would love it if the real father came back and trampled all over his cardboard clone!
