Having traveled quite a bit in the states, I have found that people in metro areas of the U.S. are usually more accepting of gays than people in the rural areas.
Is that the same case in Ireland as well?
 
I would think that an almost universal pattern for multiple sociological reasons.

Urban populations have large transient ratios compared to rural communities.

The looser community model in urban areas mean individuals are less integrated in their neighbors' lives and therefore less aware or concerned.

The urban population is more diverse, in vocation, ethnicity, religion, mores, and in almost every way.

Rural populations are more isolated and therefore more insulated against social change. The more remote in mountains or islands or jungle or desert such a population is, the more resistant to change it becomes.

Urban populations have higher single populations and the accompanying sexual mores. Rural populations, although no longer necessarily agrarian, have more families per capita, and therefore are less likely to see as many singles or gays.

The dichotomy between urban and rural is just as true in progressive states or provinces, but the progressives disown the rural populations just as conservatives disown their more progressive urbanite cousins.

This thread Is primarily about asking THE OP questions about Ireland and Irish people. So my question was directed at him. I was interested in HIS observations about attitudes towards gays specifically in IRELAND.

Is there any hierarchy of redheads in Ireland? American blacks are infamous for favoring light-complected blacks over darker in advertizing, cinema, and social favoritism. Is there any similar bias in Ireland for strawberry blondes, auburn, or any variants?

Probably slightly but not as wide as in the past. But after all we have an openly gay Taoiseach (Prime Minister) and voted to put the Right to Gay marriage in our constitution, and rural people voted for both.
