Amazon Fire TV Stick?

The Amazon Prime Instant video subscription costs $99 per year. You’ll need this is you want to get full use out of the Fire Stick. Whilst it gives you access to other services like Netflix and Spotify, to truly enjoy the best of the Fire Stick, a subscription is necessary. With the Prime Instant video subscription comes thousands of TV shows and movies, including some decent exclusives like Transparent and Bosch 500530 +%.

But, if you want the newer titles and bigger blockbuster films/TV shows, you’ll have to pay extra. This is where it get a bit more tricky – it’s difficult to differentiate between the content included in the subscription and what you have to pay extra for. It’s unclear until you have to make a purchase, which could be a costly for users duped by the ambiguity.

I don't know much about a fire stick, but my Mother and her Husband just got a Roku that seems great. They got one of the more pricey ones and I can't wait until our Verizon cable contract ends because we are ditching cable for a Roku.

WE have a roku and an amazon fire thingie, it's not the stick tho. they work great but you still have to subscribe and pay for what you watch. Hulu, Amazon, etc, you pay for. You tube is free i think....

YouTube is free but ultimately paying for Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go, etc is a better bargain and ultimately cheaper because you are actually paying for things you actually want vs paying for a butt load of crap you don't want.

I agree, I'm going to shut off the cable we have at our cabin and strictly use the Amazon Fire thingie. You Tube has tons of content, there is plenty to watch.

Thanks guys. I guess I didn't understand correctly. I don't know if a stick would save me money or not.

I think it depends on how much you spend on cable. My house direct tv bill is $100+ a month. Roku did not make me think I could do without it at home. At the cabin, we have a basic set up which sucks. I can live without it for the amount of time we spend there.

I have one and I really like it! As long as you have Amazon Prime, and Netflix, Hulu and HBO accounts you'll be good-to-go!

It also depends on what you spend your time watching.

Firestick is mostly useful for access content on Amazon, particularly if you are an Amazon Prime member. Amazon Prime free movies are sucky. You'll end up either buying the better movies from Amazon or getting a Netflix subscription (pay-per-view movies on Amazon are usually free with a Netflix subscription).

If you're not buying a lot of movies from Amazon, you probably won't get much value from going to Fire or FireStick.

The FireStick has some nice features and it's portable- you can move it from TV to TV.

Another question you need to ask yourself has to do with how you're getting your internet access. If you're getting both cable and internet from your cable provider, then keeping your basic cable and accessing Netflix from their DVR might be a better option in the long run.

If you're watching local channels or news/weather channels on cable, then keep the basic cable.
