Amazon shipments are kinda sketchy, but the two books at least arrived safely

I've been buying a few things from Amazon finally. Had bought onesy twosy items in the past, but literally less than six things over the years.

Now, I'm not so impressed. The sellers are packaging things shitty and they are getting damaged, or they were bogus items in the first place. Two mobile phone batteries arrived a month ago, one dead, one unable to keep a charge.

Other items arrived yesterday put in a box that wasn't closed and the items could have slipped out.

Another parcel arrived with contents crushed because the seller simply packed them into a too small paperboard box and then wrapped it in Tyvek. No carboards, no real box, and the items are deformed.

It's shameful.

But I ordered two of Edward Snowden's books and they are ok. Did anyone else buy his new book?

Will make for a good read, plus I'll have company now that the FBI will be with me online all the time.

I order from Amazon regularly and everything has been appropriately packaged. They do have a reputation for leaving parcels in exposed locations though if nobody's at home to take delivery. I had a book completely ruined once because it was left out in the open on a rainy day and the cardboard packaging soaked up the water. To be fair, it was replaced without a problem. There days I tend to use either my mother's address (she doesn't go out much) or an Amazon locker for delivery of anything not likely to fit through the letterbox.

Is that guy still hiding out in Russia ?

Never had a problem with deliveries, well a TV arrived once that had a broken inner screen, you couldn't tell til the TV was on, got a replacement two day later, plus i kept the TV remote from the first one as compensation.

I've only got one shipment that came packaged badly. It was a gift from someone that just came backed in the styrofoam that's usually in a designed box. It was just wrapped with clear packing tape.

I only buy from Amazon and not third party sellers. They're the ones that sell sketchy items and fakes.

Packages from Amazon I have only once had a problem with - it was an expensive large art book and it was pouring rain outside. The UPS driver "frisbee-ed" it onto the porch causing the corner of the book to be crushed. Amazon got me a replacement in 2 days.

As for 3rd party sellers - that is much less predicable. Some are excellent - some just toss it in an envelope with no protection. Part of the problem is that Amazon does not allow them to charge enough to even cover the postage sometimes.

I hate ordering things online and having to worry about it being delivered and no one stealing it. I always prefer to go to the store and buy it. I ordered some vitamins online and the email said it arrived i thought someone stole them off the porch. The next day i got an email that it was in the apartment locker. Nowadays anyone can deliver amazon products

I miss the days when the UPS would make you sign off on expensive products.

I almost never buy at Amazon, even we have now one in Holland .

A lot has changed since this thread was posted.

The pandemic, for instance.

I just got a book with a lot of grit and what appeared to be a partial footprint on it. Shipped in a large box with about five of those plastic air pillows in it (amazon: "here, can you throw this away for us?) Thank god it didn't shatter. Sometimes by seeing how stuff if packed I can tell how exasperated and overworked the employees who packed it were.

I order a lot of books and dvds/blu rays from them. There's no place you can get videos for a better price, but does anybody know of a cheap, reliable, well-stocked online bookseller?

Does Amazon have their own delivery, or did your package arrive by post or some other delivery company?

I've read stories about filthy banged up Amazon packages delivered by UPS. Can't blame Amazon for some other company's carelessness- other than Amazon's choosing to use them, I suppose.

No, it was a Prime item. Tossed out of one of those stupid Prime vans (we have a hub here in NYC). I doubt USPS or FedEx would open my package, step on it, then reseal it before delivery.

The other books I got were from second-party sellers. Wrapped in thick plastic with foam padding. No dirt or damage. Yeah, they take forever to arrive, but if they're books, that's fine.

Amazon loves to throw shit in boxes.

I order books all the time from Amazon. I order 5 or 6 at a time so I get free shipping on orders over $25. It’s supposed to take 5-7 days to get them but there’s a hub close by so I usually get them the next day. The last order I made was on a Tuesday evening at 9pm. The estimated delivery date was Sunday. I received the box on Wednesday. It was an Amazon delivery because it was delivered to the back door and I got the picture email. It was raining that day and not protected in any way but luckily I got home before the books got wet.

No reason for prime for me.

I've been buying from Amazon for many years and I've been a Prime member for almost that long. I resisted Prime until my purchases deliveries began to exceed the membership. I've never had a problem.

I bought an electric kettle from Wal*Mart a few years ago. I never got it. When I called to complain, I had to prove that I didn't receive it. I've never shopped at Wally-World since then, either in-store or online.

never had a problem with my orders from Amazon. Arrived on time or before , well package.

I order some vitamins off amazon and they said it was delivered and i thought someone stole them and then the next day i got an email saying it was in the amazon locker box. I do hate online shopping because i'm afraid someone is going to steal my items.

I also hate ups don't have you sign when you order expensive products

Had no idea my old thread made a cameo appearance on Twilight after all this time. Go figure.

I still don't buy from Amazon. Deleted my account.

I had to start buying people's Christmas gifts off amazon as best buy is not really stocking cds. And with cv19 and my broken foot in person shopping wasn't happening in fact 90% of everything we bought was done online! And I hate doing that as I am a tactile shopper and like feeling quality before I purchase as well as feel no need in paying shipping charges!

One time I had an Amazon book order become undeliverable (I don't know why) and they eventually credited me for that order. The rest of the time they have been delivered in reasonable condition and often two days sooner than they first said. They usually come in the U.S. mail.

^ It could have been a private seller who had difficulty fulfilling the order for one reason or another.
